Reviews for `CELTIC ROSS HOTEL `

Had a lovely break - staff were lovely. Bed was very comfortable and linens nice and fresh. However the bedroom could do with some refreshing particularly the shower tiles and shower curtain and tiles. Also wardrobe needs repainting and refreshing.

Great hotel Fab location very friendly staff. Very reasonable

John scored 3 / 5 on 10/06/2023

Most things about this hotel are very good cleanliness friendly staff However the Dinner menu is their downfall e.g Fish dish 22 euros and the waiter whispers in a rather embarrassing tone that you have to order veg potatos or chips separately at euros each which makes the meal very expensive Underhand tactics

Lovely - Lovely stay, lovely girls at reception, and lovely breakfast staff.

Had a fabulous 3 nights at the Celtic Ross Hotel where we were treated like old friends. Lovely rooms, great leisure centre and superb restaurant for breakfast and dinner. The staff were very attentive and knew when and when not to be available for service. The nearest beach is Warren Beach and is safe and very accessable while only being 500 metres from hotel. We will be back.

Beautiful hotel, lovely people, good food. Will stay here again. Thanks for a great time!

Sean scored 3 / 5 on 14/04/2023

The Bar restaurant area lacked atmosphere in the evening. Having people in the lounge area sitting apart and a large space between them is not conducive to creating a good atmosphere for the musical groups. Evening dinner menu could be improved by including fresh oven baked Chicken or Turkey. I rarely eat red meat or fish. I asked if I could get cooked chicken or Turkey but it was not available. We travelled into Clonakilty in the evening for dinner.

From check-in to check-out we couldn’t fault anything. A lot of the staff are locals which is a great asset to customers. The beds are extremely comfortable and the rooms are nicely decorated. Looking forward to going back soon.

Hanne Michelle scored 5 / 5 on 04/03/2023

Loved the location, lovely view from the very comfortable room. Very friendly staff. Very nice breakfast in a very relaxing dining room. The restaurant which has a new chef was outstanding, wonderful flavours of the food and very reasonably priced. The swimming pool was very nice with lovely murals on the wall and big fluffy towels. The parking was excellent, ev chargers if one needed. Lovely quiet walks all around the area especially down to the beaches and the pier right across from the hotel.

Anne scored 4 / 5 on 04/03/2023

When we arrived our room was ready. We were offered a free upgrade which was nice and had a lovely view of the lagoon. The food in the hotel is very tasty and tho choice is limited there is something for everyone.. maybe an Asian stir fry option would be a good addition.. the breakfast was really nice and well presented. I also think that a bar option away from the dining area would be nice… the library area comes to mind.. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back to enjoy the hotel and the lovely Warren beach and many walking routes..

Christina scored 5 / 5 on 03/08/2022

Really enjoyed our stay, our room was lovely and the bathrobes and slippers were great for going down to the pool. Our breakfast on first morning was a bit of a let down because of slow service but was sorted out very quick, I seriously think you need to bring back buffet style breakfast and only have your staff clearing and resetting tables.

Gerry scored 3 / 5 on 11/06/2022

Very friendly staff. I had both lunch and dinner in the Celtic Ross and the standard of food was excellent. Hotel is very conscious of practices in relation to Covid, which extend to the serving of breakfast.

Thomas scored 2 / 5 on 01/06/2022

Worst breakfast experience ever and worst breakfast EVER!!!!!! The hotel asked for a review and we wrote one stating our honest experience. We left a number rather than leave it anonymously. Someone rang from the hotel number three times and hung up when we answered. We rang back but the phone calls couldn’t be accounted for. I would never return to this hotel again.

Robert scored 5 / 5 on 29/05/2022

Overall this hotel was excellent the staff were very helpful especially Aoife and Ed . The one thing that really let them down was the food the cost to me was exhorbitant one tiny piece of hake two baby potatoes cut in 8 pieces, 3 tips of asparagus over twenty two euro.I had my dinner and was still hungry.Breakfast was very well organised and really good menu.I stayed for 3 nights and dinner on other 2 nights was only OK as i said before price for food was exhorbitant I would go back again just wish the food prices were better and the portions were too.

The hotel is a perfect base to explore West Cork. Plenty of free parking at the hotel and a lovely beach a short stroll away. Staff were lovely and friendly . Rooms were bright and clean. Breakfast was lovely - you tick what you want on a menu to avoid food wastage which I thought was a great idea. Food served hot to the table no messy buffets . All staff wearing masks , tables really well spaced out & hand sanitizer everywhere! The evening restaurant food is limited and is a little disappointing for the price. Nice pool and gym but we didn’t have time to use it . You book in advance. I would return to the hotel .

Would have been five stars but for a faulty thermostat in the shower that meant we had to move room. However, both rooms were fine and beds very comfy. Can't fault the service though, special kudos to the breakfast wait staff who have to do much more running around under Covid. I've stayed at least a dozen times and the welcome has always been warm and genuine. My son loves the pool and even Covid cannot dampen his enthusiasm and he enjoyed every minute. My thanks to all and Merry Christmas

The setting for the hotel is lovely and the view is beautiful, staff are very pleasant, but our room smelled of smoke even though we had the window open but it is hard for a hotel to monitor this and it could do with updating. We had a bite to eat in the bar that night they were extremely busy the food was good but the service was only okay I worked in the hospitality for years and would expect a little bit more, burgers are a bit pricey for what you are getting even though they did taste nice. We had breakfast the next morning which was a buffet, staff were very nice, food was okay but they have changed their products over the last number of years as breakfast there used to outstanding. Didn't use the pool so can't comment on this. I would stay there again as I really like the area and it is good value for money

Hotel was in a great location. rooms were a little dated but the service was good. excellent WiFi service in the rooms. breakfast however left it down as it was a bit haphazard and the food was left too long under the lights and was pretty dried up. we were at breakfast by 9am so it should have been fresher by then.

We loved the friendly atmosphere in this hotel, everything was geared towards the guest's comfort. Food & service was faultless despite a very busy St. Patricks Day. John at bar most helpful. Room 110 spacious & had beautiful furniture & lovely view. If I had any small quibble it was that reading lamp on one locker only & plug wouldn't fit on other side so I read with my phone torch! Otherwise a blissful stay. Many thanks.

I recently stayed in the Celtic Ross Hotel. From checking in until the time we left we found the staff to be friendly and very helpful. The meal was excellent. A nice added bonus was a pre dinner dring provided by the Hotel. We walked to Rosscarberry as it is only a few minutes walk up the hill. There are a few nice pubs there. There was an adjoining door in the room and we could hear some noise coming from the room- that was the only drawback with our stay. John & Sandra

John scored 4 / 5 on 30/01/2017

Hi, We recently stayed at Celtic Ross and found it very pleasant. The food was good in the restaurant and the staff were excellent. The village is walking distance and a good choice of bars to pass the night away. If the weather is with You there is a lot of nice walks to be had too. I do however mention that room 212 has adjoining room door to 214 and if the people are yapping until 3am ( as they did ) the paper thin door is of no help to the noise and privacy level. I hope management will sort this as it was the only negative point I can mention about our stay at The Celtic Ross. Thank You...John and Debbie.

Great night stay, food lovely, bar nice and relaxing, only down side went with my girlfriend had plan to use spa facilities, we where informed 2 days in advance only 1 therapist on duty, still went had a great time, would highly recommend.

Overall very happy with our stay. The staff were friendly and helpful. The meals were excellent. If there is any criticism it would be the lack of soundproofing of the bedrooms doors. Many thanks.

Loved the hotel. Had a great time. The staff are lovely. The food in the restaurant is lovely. Family rooms are a generous size. The leisure centre has everything you need. Perfectly located to visit Clonakilty, Baltimore, Glandore, Union Hall etc. Will be returning!

Ms scored 3 / 5 on 07/11/2016

Lovely stay , 2 adults 2 kids . Room had double bed , single bed and camp bed which was fine . The room was a good size for a family. Food was excellent and service couldn't be faulted . Found all the staff including the leisure center staff to be very helpful. The lounge and library areas were great for a relaxing drink after dinner . The kids enjoyed the kids club and had plenty to do . Rosscarbery is a quiet town , but a great base for exploring the Southern part of west cork . Only thing that let it down was the charge for breakfast for the kids . We were aware that there may be a charge for kids for breakfast which is fine , but it was €5 per child per breakfast , but as our kids are young , they only had cereal and juice and this charge wasnt advised to us in advance. We stayed in 2 other hotels as part of this trip with same terms and conditions and the other 2 hotels had no charge for kids for breakfast.

Matthew scored 4 / 5 on 09/07/2016

Perfect for a family break. Lots to do in the area of weather permits. The swimming pool is great and the food in the restaurant is fantastic. The only complaint is that the room was very hot and had no air conditioning.

David scored 3 / 5 on 27/06/2016

Roscarberry is an absolutely beautiful place. The hotel is in need of a bit of refurbishment. We stayed for 1 night which included an evening meal. Unfortunately my partner got very ill within minutes of finishing her meal. She was sick for 90 minutes or so. I made the staff aware of this issue and when they tried to discuss this on the night I askd to defer the conversaton until the following day as I was still looking after the patient. The following day when I went to pay the bill I was told someone would talk to me in a minute, I waited and was presented with the bill. I duely paid it and immediately the Manager on duty appeared. She apologised profusely and said this was not usual. She said samples of the food that my partner had eaten were taken and would be sent for analysis. i was also informed no-one else who had eaten the same dishes got sick. Overall, I felt a little bit annoyed that they took their money before talking to me. I do not complain for the sake of it and my partner was genuinely very sick as a result of the food she ate at the hotel. It would have been nice to have chatted first before I was made pay up.

We recently stayed at The Celtic Ross Hotel and had a brilliant stay. The staff really make this hotel and we met lovely people at the Leisure Centre who gave us loads of sightseeing tips. Rosscarbery is a small town up the hill from the hotel which has a few pubs, restaurants, small supermarket and chemist. Across the road from the hotel is a water activities centre in the lagoon which was very busy. Just down the road is an outdoors Fish & Chip restaurant. Nearby are some beaches and Clonakilty is only 10 mins drive away. There you can see the model railway village & road train (well worth a trip), 2 Museums (Michael Collins and the West Cork museum). This is a lovely town for shopping and food and there is a playground on the road back to the hotel. Skibbereen is a 20 min drive west of the hotel. Again a lovely town which has a great playground. Don't forget to visit Lough Hyne (a salt water lake on the Baltimore road) for some swimming. There is a forest just across the road which is worth a trip while you are there.

Lovely hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful especially Melanie (waitress) who looked after us so well. Room very comfortable, but I would advise anyone staying there, to avail of the offer of 20 euros extra for a room overlooking the lake. At the back of the hotel, your view is of a cemetery! Quiet neighbors but a bit depressing! Apart from that, a lovely experience overall.

Had a lovely stay at the weekend at the Celtic Ross with family, reception staff were warm and friendly, dinner was outstanding on the Saturday night, we have stayed at this hotel at mid term with the kids for the last five years and this year was by far the best, the one fault we did find was we had booked a family room and when we arrived were given a room with a double and single, housekeeping did provide a camp bed for one of the kids but the room was very cramped compared to previous years. But we will return again next year!

Aisling scored 3 / 5 on 23/02/2016

I've stayed here a number of times. Make sure you ask for a room with a view though. The room we got was looking out onto a graveyard! Dinner was beautiful, breakfast was massive and a little overdone but still nice. The staff are lovely too. Rosscarbery is a beautiful place and there's some great walks around too.

Our 2 night stay at the Celtic Ross Hotel was the highlight of our tour of the south west. We had an excellent room with a magnificent view of the Bay. The food was excellent and the staff could not have been more helpful. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to family and friends and look forward to another visit.

Really enjoyed our midweek break here. Evening food in the bar was fab. The girl, Deirdre, who served us was fantastic and an asset to the hotel. She chatted and Interacted with all guests in a very friendly and genuine manner. Rooms were very comfortable and spacious. This hotel is worthy of 4 stars. Lovely seating area outside looking out towards water. The reception and lobby area had plenty of seating also. My only slight criticism would be the breakfast. There was not a huge selection available when we were there as food and plates/bowls etc had not been replenished. Overall a fantastic stay in a beautiful hotel with great service and friendly staff. We will be back

Lets start with the good stuff. Lovely position with great views and a really nice room. The evening meal was fantastic with friendly staff. The bad stuff. We had a long drive north so were looking forward to breakfast. What a disaster. It was self service ( I think because no one would want to face you if they place the food in front of you ) The buffet was bad to look at, from the cereal to the cooked food. The fried eggs were hard and greasy, scrambled eggs ( I think ) didn't really look good. the bacon... I won't go on. The good news is we did stop for something to eat on the way and made the journey to Co.Down safely.

Excellent hotel.Very friendly Irish staff.Food was top notch, locally sourced. There were no cheap substitutes here, breakfast was very good, wide range of cereals, breads, juices and the full Irish was very tasty. Both evening meals were of a very high standard too with a good choice of menu. Our weather was not the greatest during our stay, but thankfully we had the pool/leisure centre, which passed away a few hours. The room was spacious enough for the four of us,the only thing we found missing was the UTV Ireland channel on the tv,but apart from that,we had a lovely stay and would highly recommend this hotel. We will be back.

Very happy with the hotel. The room was spacious and had a view of the sea. Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Food was good. Entertainment in the bar on two of the nights we were there. Didn't see the leisure as it was unfortunately closed for renovations. The hotel stay was a pleasurable experience.

Robbie scored 4 / 5 on 10/06/2014

Lovely staff, very welcoming. Room was clean and good size. Bed comfortable. Leisure centre was good to spend 30/45 mins in. Nice to see a life guard on duty as another pair of eyes on the kids. Location and scenery was great (good weather helping) and value for money (through Lidl Breaks) is hard to beat. Breakfast was good and dinner was very good as part of the deal. Wine list provided for most tastes and reasonably priced. Only issue was we were told WiFi was available in the room but you have to connect to it down in the lobby. Connected twice in the lobby and it didnt work then up in the room. All in all though will visit again in the future and recommend the deal to friends/family. The hotel itself if a high end 3 star as i've stayed in worse 4 stars in the country.

I booked this hotel through Lidl breaks and the hotel contacted me on my arrival date to say they were booked out and it was an error made by the booking company. I sent a brief email to this company explaining what happened AND they are now asking me to rate my stay when it was cancelled. You should really pay MORE attention to detail

lovely hotel and beautiful scenary and setting.nice receptionist on arrival - could have been a little more friendly. the meal was fab and the dining room staff were very friendly and helpful. the room was nice - clean and very warm. great to have kettle. the breakfast was a bit disappointing. although breakfast is served until half ten and we arrived about 10.15, the brown bread basket was empty, no white pudding and the quality of the sausage was NOT GOOD. the receptionist on duty when we were checking out was so friendly and helpful. would definately stay again and really great value for money, and we enjoyed west cork - it never fails us.

The Celtic Ross was excellent! The meal was the nicest we have had for a long time, rooms were spacious and comfortable, staff were all very friendly and efficient. It was a short walk to a local pub which had a great atmosphere and the following day the scenery was lovely as it was such a nice morning. So 10 out of 10!

I stayed with my husband in the Celtic Ross Hotel on Friday 22nd June. It was a present for my husband for his birthday. We had not been away for awhile. The Hotel was lovely. Reception staff were very polite and friendly. We even spoke about maybe staying another night. We did not have dinner in the hotel. We went up the village. We were down for Breakfast at 10.15am. we had cereal and then we went to get the full breakfast. The bacon was all burned, Sausages were cold , eggs were like leather, there were no scramble eggs, no mushrooms or no beans. Puddings were cremated. The person serving did not even apologise, he made no effort to get us a fresher breakfast. I would think the food had been cooked since 7am. Other people were complaining as well. No effort was made. We were very dissappointed, part of going away is having breakfast served up. I have never had this experience in any hotel I have stayed in . I would like to know was there a problem on the day. I certainly would not reccomend this hotel and have advised friends of what happened. After this experience at breakfast, we did not consider staying another night. Kay Sheehan 0876838546

A real break -a very relaxing area and hotel. We were made very welcome and felt 'at home' straightaway. It's in a fabulous location and gives easy access to Cork City and the West Coast. The staff are very helpful and kind. A lovely breakfast and the Irish Breakfast is freshly made from local produce. The room was spacious with a good view. It had comfortable beds and a bath with a good shower. Celtic Ross lives up to its reputation. Thanks for a great stay!

Just returned from a lovely stay in the Celtic Ross Hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and gave us a lovely room with views. The food was good, breakfast, lunch and evening meal. We didn't try the leisure centre as the weather was super and there are fantastic walks and scenery just a stone's throw from the hotel. The hotel has a walker's guide to walks in the area which was very informative and well wriitten. Many thanks to all for a lovely stay. Eileen

Its a nice spot, lovely hotel. Spacious, cosy. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We stayed for one night over weekend,it was very quite,no any entertaiment,no even music at the bar. Menu in restaurant could have major improvement-very little choice for evening meal, poor enough. Breakfast was fantastic-big choice, hot and cold options. Swimming pool and small gym are nice addition to weekend away. Spa salon and holistic procedure is avaible for extra cost.We enjoyed our stay there.

We stayed last weekend on the lidl bead and breakfast with evening meal deal and what a deal this is especially when you stay in a hotel as good as the Celtic Ross. This is how a hotel in Ireland should be run. Stayed with a group of friends and had a great weekend The food is tops the Staff are so friendly and the general feeling is homely The hotel is clean and one can really relax here The only complaint I would have is the pool is not very clean (This is an easy one to rectify). To the staff of the Celtic Ross we will see you soon.

We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and chose this hotel. West Cork was a revelation to us. Beautiful beaches and lovely scenery. We were warmly welcomed at the hotel. To our surprise we were allocated a bay view room. What a pleasure . The room was immaculate and a very generous size with nice bathroom. Dinner on te first evening was great but on the second evening it was super. Una is a great hostess. She makes you feel that you are the only guests in the dining room. Breakfast was fine with sufficient choice. a generous cooked breakfast was served. Coffee was tasty. The Celtic Ross more than lived up to our expectations for a 3 star hotel. THANKS ONE & ALL

when we arrived we got a friendly welcom 1st impressions were very good when we went to our room I was disappointed to see nothing but roof tops ! I decided that waking up to that view wasn't what I had in mind when booking at this hotel so I explained at reception the problem and was advised all standard rooms overlook roofs but for another 20euro per night we could upgrade to a room with a view! We decided to upgrade the room was well presented roomy clean and apart from the furniture looking a little tired was fine the staff were professional and curtious although some of the waiting staff should remember "A Smile is half the meal" but the supervisor Una was a little treasure! The dinners in the evening were lovely try the seafood chowder! I would most defiantly visit Celtic Ross again. This was my first time on a Lidle break I was looking "for the catch

excellent value for money.we had planned to go for a meal to celebrate my husbands birthday but decided that the lidle break was a better option. the hotels on the list are all very good and we found it hard to choose.our stay in celtic ross was very enjoyable, everything was to our liking.however i deducted a star as ther was chaos in the dinning room at breakfast and many people waiting a lomg time to be served and they even ran out of ware.in saying that people seemed to be understanding i personally thought it was great to see a hotel so busy in early november

Key card did not work after check-in, no complimentary water in the room, TV in room 301 was ancient (almost black & white) with a terrible reception, bar staff was hopeless on a Saturday night when it was not really crowded. However, overall staff was pleasant, leisure center was entertaining, view from the room over the bay was OUTSTANDING, breakfast buffet was good and Sunday paper was available for free at reception. It remains a good value for money though.

Just Excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Staff were very pleasant and our evening meal excellent.. Only small gripe was room not ready until 4.20pm - supposed to be 3pm. Aploogies were profuse and it was a Bank Hol Sun/Mon stay, the Roscarbery Festival was on and in all honesty the place was hopping - so you're only human. Thanks for a great one night break - we'll be back.

couple weekend break - I thought that this hotel would have had a much higher standard. The food wasnt great and I thought that this may have been due to the Lidl break menu as this was our first of 3 lidl breaks, I found in the other hotels that this wasnt the case, the food was just bad in the Celtic Ross. The pool wasnt great, when we went down on the Saturday morning there were swimming lessons taking place in the pool, the steam room had outdoor metal chairs in it which wasnt great. I was very surprised at the standard of this hotel. The location however is perfect a short walk to the town and a nice walk along by the water also.

We will be booking there again, through Lidl Breaks, of course. If you want a Lidl peace and tranquility, book a Lidl-break.
