Absolutely fabulous hotel. Very clean Breakfast included a range of something for everyone. Would highly recommend.
Lots of good points but maybe a few things that could be improved Location - very good, bit of a steep walk back to hotel but ok Reception - some very nice staff but one gentleman that really wasn’t very helpful and clearly didn’t want to be there Rooms - Lovely big room with high ceilings. Bathroom, however, could be much better, no cold water in sink (got bottle from Restaurant), no radiator (Room 110) and could really do with updating. Restaurant - dinner was reasonably good, chips not good however. Breakfast was very good. Staff in restaurant/bar were excellent. Would definitely stay again
Beautiful hotel, with calming ambience.Pleasent staff and delicious food.Definitly worth a stay.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were most courteous and helpful. The food was to a high standard. The hotel had character and well located with free parking.
Beautiful hotel, great service, staff so friendly, food was fabulous for both breakfast and dinner. Within walking distance from city. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. Will definitely be back.
Lovely old world hotel not far from the city centre only about a 10min walk staff were plentiful and friendly would stay there again
Friendly helpful staff, lovely hotel would go back and food delicious. Not to far to walk in to city centre, ideal location.
Hotel very central, which is good Food excellent, which was great. Room very basic & small, not so good, but ok for the 1 night!
Staff, food, bar staff, night porter Don, all were excellent. Hotel lovely, good covid guidelines. However, disappointed as we got very small room, with really tiny shower room. Would have expected more, cos we were staying 2 nights, also we are returning guests
The rooms are dated, the front of house staff showed no enthusiasm for there job or the guests.
Big comfy bed... Lovely view of city. Food in McGettigans was good. Staff there using Visors... Good to see. Also lots of Sanitizer available. Enjoyed our stay.
We stayed at the Ambasodor Hotel on friday 5th October 2018 The hotel is comfortable and clean and in a good location. The staff were friendly.Unfortunately it was very noisy and this went on till the early hours The breakfast was disapointing as the custard pastry I got was raw. Also I felt the sausage was undercooked and pink I pointed this out to thet manager who tried to assure me it was ok She also said she would remove any other pastries and apologised for this.
We really enjoyed our trip here. The staff were incredibly friendly and dealt with any queries or complaints that we had quickly and professionally. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the room we had was very comfortable. Would go again!
Myself and my husband stayed at the hotel last friday night. Unfortunately I got no sleep due to noise out in the corridor throughout the night. The walls in the hotel rooms are paper thin. We could hear our neighbour boiling the kettle and talking very clearly. The hotel itself is lovely and the staff were excellent, but I wouldn't go back due to the noise in the bedrooms
I have stayed in the Ambassador Hotel before and decided to stay there again . What a lovely place to stay and very close to Cork city centre. The room was very spacious and clean. The food was excellent and the staff were wonderful. Excellent value for money.
Staff very friendly and welcoming. Had a great time and would certainly recommend staying in this hotel
Fabulous hotel. Lovely and peaceful. Advise get a taxi if your walking to it or get the no 8 bus and walk back to hotel Breakfast was delicious. Evening dinner was even more delicious. All staff highly customer serviced trained. Would 100% recommend
Great value, lovely big well appointed room, good WiFi and nice breakfast freshly cooked and served to the table.
Check in experience fantastic. Great customer service skills This is an old hotel so bedrooms bit old too. Booked a single room bathroom was clean apart from towel rail what looked like bits of concrete on it. Ate in restaurant. Lovely food great service. Make sure the lift is working as got stuck in it for about 8 minutes and seemed like 50" Was advised there was a sign saying lift Out of order maybe put it in a place people can see.
I found my stay here very enjoyable and staff to be very helpful. I would recommend to anyone.
Perfect hotel for a city break in Cork. Would recommend highly !
Our stay was fab & the staff super..... Don especially! The food was 5 star I'd highly recommend the Seafood chowder - We'll be back
Hotel excellent, Food wonderful. Staff friendly. Great location. Highly Recommend.
Excellent great staff lovely hotel
Loved this hotel, although an old building it was very warm and friendly. Loved the decor, the staff were all very helpful and the food was excellent!
Exelent hotel , really enjoyed staying here . Staff friendly and helpful, good food and nice atmosphere . 10 minute walk to city centre, all and all would highly recommend the ambassador hotel . Will be back !
staff very nice, food lovely, hotel lovely, could not fault the hotel at all.
Wonderful staff and wonderful stay and what great value for money. Don and April where particularly fantastic and helpful. We look forward to staying again.
Food isnt good but rooms are comfortable. Not good for anyone who has back problems or sore legs had to walk alot and get two different lifts to get to the room.
Excellent service and to a high quality as usual whenever I staff.
I really enjoyed my stay here. The food was lovely and for me, the friendliness of the staff was excellent. I felt very relaxed and would definitely stay here again.
Beautiful hotel in a great location. Service and food was fantastic. Had a lovely relaxing weekend stay here and would highly recommend a visit to all.
Stayed one night on bed and breakfast basis. Overall impression was faultless and we had an enjoyable stay Staff were very courteous and friendly, breakfast was first class. Bedrooms, bar area and reception area very impressive Highly recommend this hotel Would definently stay again. Free parking and wifi was an additional bonus
Arrived in Cork by rail - hotel up the hill not too far away - a taxi ride to the hotel might be the best option - there are buses that drop you close to hotel (207 & 208) - hotel was very comfortable - room was massive - food was fine - staff were friendly - would have no problem staying here again - good luck.
Cork Cracker! Enjoyed everything about The Ambassador Hotel... Room , décor, food and staff all 100% . Short walk down hill into Cork City centre. Will return !
Excellent stay in cork, hotel building has character, in a good location about 10min walk (down hill) to centert, food good and very helpful staff, our room had an view over the city and was very nice
Enjoyed our stay at the Ambassador hotel. We found the staff excellent. Our only dissapointment concerned the evening meal which had a very poor selection.
My husband and I cannot praise this hotel enough.Reception area is class with polished tiles and fabulous wallpaper. The corridors to bedrooms are unusually wide and with a very cool carpet and the same great wallpaper create a luxurious and exciting experience. As this hotel is on a hill, the view of the city is wonderful.O.k the hill is steep so walk down and taxi back. The food in this hotel is amazing as is the service. The restaurant supervisor was a delightful man who made you glad to be there .He was charming to all.Wonderful menu, beautifully presented, perfectly cooked to your taste and an exciting experience in total.Wonderful selection at breakfast to suit Irish and Continental tastes. We will definitely stay here again .Super.
Very nice hotel to stay in, friendly staff and good food .
Lovely hotel, friendly staff and a great shower, couldn't ask for any more
I have stayed at the Ambassador Hotel on many occasions and as always the staff and facilities are exceptional. I will of course be staying again the next time in the area.
Date of stay 12th July. My husband and I had a wonderful Nights stay at the Ambassador hotel. We love the changes to the reception area, it makes the hotel feel bright and airy. We were on a B&B basis, so decided to have dinner in the bar and we were not disappointed, I opted for there 2 course special where I could choose from a selection of starters and mains, or mains amd desert for €19.95. I chose starter and main and enjoyed a delicious starter of goats cheese spring rolls, followed by a steak that was cooked to perfection. After a very comfortable nights sleep we headed down for breakfast and I have to say I was delighted with the improvements there too. There was a wonderful selection of juice, fresh fruit, cold meats and cheese, pastries, home made scones, along with a great selection of hot food. No trouble at all to have an omelette freshly prepared and plenty of tea and coffee. All in all we had a lovely stay amd will be back. Special thanks to Brona who looked after us at dinner time, she has a lovely manner as do all the staff we encountered. Thanks everyone.
Definitely worth the 5 stars. Had stayed there a couple of years ago before it was done up, and was impressed with the staff and food. But it definitely needed some TLC in the decor dept. A recent stay confirmed our earlier impression, but a makeover has made this hotel a definite must-stay place when in Cork. It is within walking distance of town (10 mins), although there is a hill to climb when returning (hey, that's Cork for ya!). The staff were very friendly and the food was very good (only stayed B&B this time, though!). Will be back, hopefully. John. (Galway)
We really enjoy our break. The staff were knowledgeable, very friendly and helpful. The hotel is comfortable and the food was delicious. We will be back.
I stayed in the Ambassador doe two nights. When I arrived the receptionist was very friendly and welcoming. She gave me the key to my room. However when I went into the room it hadn't been cleaned and beds weren't made. I returned to the reception and the lady there was very apologetic. After a minute or two, she directed me to a different room which I felt was superior to the other one. There was an amazing view. I have stayed in many hotels in Ireland and in other countries. I can genuinely say that the Ambassador, in my estimation is one of the best. What impressed me mostly was the staff. Their awareness regarding guests and our needs. The courtesy. Nothing was to much for them. The smile never faded no matter how busy they were. I genuinely felt 'cared for'. It is very much a team effort which includes all of the staff. From the General Manager to the Barman. Finally the food was delicious. I can be bit fussy and critical when it comes to food. The food was not only cooked well. The presentation was second to none. And again always served with a smile. I read somewhere that 'smile sells the product'. The Ambassador seems to agree with this. I would definitely stay there again. It was just such a feel good experience.I would definitely award it five stars.
I would recommend this hotel to stay in. It is in the city but away from the noise. Its an easy walk downhill to Mccurtain street, but I would recommend a taxi back. The hotel has a boutique style feel to it. It is beautifully restored and rooms are very comfortable. Staff are very friendly. The hotel looks beautiful from the front and is very well maintained.
great hotel , would definatly stay again , receptionist was lovley very helpful
Hotel was undergoing renovations during our stay but this was not highlighted when booking or worse, it was not mentioned at all when checking in. This resulted in us being woken at 7am on a Saturday morning to the sound of walls being knocked with loud drills and sledge hammers. Further to this, when we arrived back to the hotel late at night, we were left standing outside, locked out in the cold for ten minutes because there was no visible doorbell. We had to look up the phone number of the hotel to call the night porter to come down to the door to let us in.
Really nice and comfortable Hotel & the food in McGettigans Cookhouse was fantastic. Location superb and would highly recommend.

We stayed in the Ambassador Hotel for three nights on a package deal. Aug 18th to 21st We found it great value for money. The food was excellent for both breakfast and dinner. The location was good and no problem parking. The rooms were very comfortable and a good size, we booked a twin and a double. All the staff were exceptionally pleasant and professional. The manager is well on top of his game. The only down side was that the lift was a little clunky and that hill back from town. well worth 5 stars
Extremely disappointing. Booked a two night stay with my wife and one year old baby. Receptionist was helpful but not overly friendly or welcoming on arrival. Was told we had a room up three flights of stairs. No problem there, but then informed the lift was out of action. Told it would be fixed by next morning, was still out of action when we checked out two days later. This normally wouldn't be a problem, but when carrying a one year old, buggy, bags etc. it can be a real pain. Got to the room and well, it was totally unacceptable. Housekeeping it appears had only saw fit to make the bed. The floor obviously had not been hoovered, the bathroom was filthy with hairs everywhere and somebody had left a nasty surprise for us in the toilet. If a cleaner cannot even check a toilet, it left us wondering what other short cuts had been taken. Suffice to say we were left paranoid as to had the sheets even been changed on bed. Rang reception to report room, told somebody would be straight up. 40 minutes later still nobody appeared. went to reception, told them we were going out and could issue be resolved by the time we got back. A couple of hours later returned, and room still hadn't been touched. After the THIRD time asking reception to do something about it, a girl arrived up to clean the toilet. In fairness to this girl she was very friendly and did a good job cleaning. Went for meal included in package. I ordered burger which was OK but my wife ordered sea-bass and vegetables, she asked for potatoes, but they said they were unable to provide potatoes without butter on them. My wife's portion size was laughably small. Literally the tiniest sea bass i have ever seen with a couple of vegetables on the plate. It was gone in seconds. Pint was quite expensive also, over a fiver if i recall. Oh and found a hair in my teacup. Breakfast was fine, decent enough selection of continental breakfast, and decent cooked breakfast, if portion size a little small (Fine on full Irish). Restaurant staff friendly but not overly efficient, hard to get their attention. Location fine, close to city, but as already posted here, its an uphill struggle walking back. Would certainly be in no great rush to return.
My wife and i enjoyed an excellent stay at the Ambassador hotel Staff were very friendly, food very good, location to city centre grand (going down hill) Overall would strongly recommend this hotel Jim McKernan Belfast, Ireland
Enjoyed a very pleasant two night stay. Would recommend the hotel without reservation. On checking in rather late, we were met by an extremely friendly and courteous staff member, which set the tone for what was to follow. I can honestly say that I could find no fault in any aspect of the services provided and I would consider myself difficult to please!
Good location for getting in and out of town. Good food and lovely bar with cool decor. Hotel obviously going through a revamp. Would definitely visit again. Great value!
I have stayed twice in a week at the New Ambassador Hotel as I was attending meeting in Cork. The hotel staff are excellent especially April on the reception desk. She is a credit to the company. The hot beakfast were waitered service and not a buffet service. This may seem like a little touch but I find it a huge benefit to making me feel special to the hotel that they want to wait on me for my breakfast. Finally, their wifi service is truely excellent. A hiuge plus when I need to get documents, emails etc. while on the go. Will definitely stay again.
We really enjoyed our stay here. Our room was fantastic and the orthopaedic bed was spot on!!! Staff was nice and accommodating to us. Food at the restaurant was delicious!!! Keep it up and maybe next time We checked in; there will be a swimming pool on the top floor and the lift will be upgraded into a new one!!! hehehe
By Ann Stayed here with my husband for one night bed and breakfast last week. It was our fifth time staying in this hotel and I have to say it was extremely comfortable and clean. We had a lovely spacious room 212 with a balcony at the front of the hotel overlooking the city. It is a good walk up hill to the hotel but a bus can be got from the city centre to St Lukes and then it is just a short walk downhill to the hotel. The receptionest and staff were very friendly. The breakfast was excellent and lovely fresh, cooked to order, only one complaint, it arrived too quickly. while we had only just sat down and we were eating our fruit and cereal, Well done to the Ambassador hotel, We will be back. I have been reading other reviews and I think the hotel might not have been good while the renovations were going on but all is well now.
Recently stayed at the Ambassador Hotel . Rooms were very clean, spacious & quiet. Location was excellent, just a short walk to the centre of Cork City. staff were all very friendly & competent. We had dinner on the evening we arrived, it was delicious & good sized portions. Breakfast was also very tasty. Will definitely stay in the Ambassador Hotel when visiting Cork again. April, at the reception desk was very accommodating, efficient & friendly.
We found the quality of ther hotel great and great value for money unfortunatly we were dissapointed with some parts when we went to dinner we left sitting for at least 40 minutes and the when the waiter came to take or order we were told there was no fish (cod fish &chips) that the last 2 were sold if we were attented to earlier we could of had the fish some ordered spring rolls the waiter later came back and told us it would be a futher 20 minutes to wait for the spring rolls they were all sold and fresh ones were been made up,a sea bass was ordered i honestly dont no how they served it up it was so dry and over cooked it crumbled when you touched it.we also had a problem with an alarm that was going of all night we got very little sleep and we were placed next to the lift and the noise that came from that was unbelievable when we complained we were told that it was a very old lift and it would be the last thing to be renovated as its very expensive to do to be honest we felt because we went through lidl breaks we were just put anywhere.I gave a 2 star only for the dinner dissaster and the alam&lift take them out and i would give it 5 stars Bridget
Excellent hotel. Full of old world charm, recent upgrade of decor in keeping with grand setting. Very friendly staff and very convenient for ventures in and about Cork city 5 star all round
We had 3 rooms booked for the weekend on the 2BB1D package. The decor in the hotel is somewhat dated but clean. The bedrooms were basic but spotless clean and the bathrooms in all 3 rooms were lovely. The signal on the TV was hit and miss which was a bit frustrating for the kids. We ate in the restaurant and all our meals were lovely. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful and although some supplies were low on the buffet when we arrived once we mentioned it to staff these were replaced within minutes. We found the staff to be friendly and very helpful. The only thing we found strange was that we were unable to order sandwiches in the hotel bar/restaurant on the second evening. I thought being able to order sandwiches would be standard in all hotels. The hotel is located up a steep hill and while we didn't walk into the city I believe it's only a 10-15 min walk down. Would not like to walk back to the hotel. Very convenient for the train station.
Just came back from a weekend in this nice old stile hotel. Will recommend this hotel to a friend. Not far from the city just on the hill about 10 minutes walk. Only save some strength for you way back up on the hill. The hotel is fine in and out, old stile doesn't mean old rack at all. Service is very nice and rooms are very clean and pristine looking. The bed in our room was huge, linen hi quality. The only minuses way I didn't mark as excellent in the bathroom lamp cover was missing and was a small crack on the sink, and if you want to take a bath make sure you have plenty of hot water.
Stayed for 2 nights in May 2014. Hotel was very nice was clean with classic decor in the room which had a balcony & faced the city. Package included dinner on both nights and was very nice food! only about a ten min walk to patrick street shopping area which is downhill getting there which unfortunately means all uphill on the way back but a good area to base yourself none the less. Overall happy with the stay and would stay again!
Stayed for 2 nights at the end of April. The hotel was undergoing refurbishment during our stay but it was not too disruptive. The layout is a bit of a maze so finding your room can be a bit of an adventure but our room was clean and comfortable with all the usual facilities. Upon arrival we did not eat in the restaurant as there was no vegetarian option on the set bar menu and the chef was unable to offer anything other than a piece of brie. The staff in the main were friendly and helpful and were very accommodating when I requested an early breakfast on the Saturday. Finding parking can be a bit of a challenge if the hotel has an event on as spaces are limited and it was the weekend. Great value for 2 nights B&B though, especially when refurbishment work finishes.
On arriving at the Hotel the receptionist was very friendly and helpful giving us lots of information, maps etc and explained everything very well. The room in the hotel was very big and clean, furniture and decor a bit dated but that would not bother me when the room was clean. Despite renovations going on in the hotel, they gave us a quite room as requested, had a great nights sleep. However the downfall to the stay was the restaurant and the food, had lunch when we arrived, we both had the chicken burger and chips which was really nice but when we had dinner that night in the Hotel which was part of the deal, it was awful, my adult son who was with me ordered the bangers and mash only to be told there was no potatoes available on the menu at all that they were only serving chips, so he agreed to have the sausage and chips, I ordered the home made fish gougons and chips, well what you would get in McDonalds would have been a pleasure compared to what we got, his chips were well overcooked, they were frozen chips, the portion size was not enough to feed a 5 year old never mind a hungry 18 year old, not even a bit of salad to replace the vegetables that should have come with the mash, my portion size was also child sized but with a small bit of salad, spent 20 mins trying to attention of the staff to get a jug of water. Breakfast the next morning was dreadful, no orange juice, few slices of cheese and ham that looked like it was there for 2 days, asked for tea and had to go back up when I had finished eating to ask for the tea again as no staff were to be seen anywhere to ask for anything. I can not comment on the leisure center as I did not make it down there with only staying for one night. Be prepared for a long difficult walk up a steep hill from the city center to the Hotel unless you are willing to pay for a taxi. Overall the staff were friendly when they were around or you could get their attention, food was not good but had a great nights sleep and was put in a nice quiet room which was very big and airy, would I stay again, maybe if I could not get the same value somewhere else but would not include the eating in the Hotel.
Myself and my husband had a lovely one night stay with evening meal at the ambassador hotel in Cork. We were greeted at reception by a very nice gentleman who was extremely polite and explained everything really well. During our stay the hotel was undergoing some renovations but this did not upset or interfere with our stay there one bit! - Due to the renovations they had a temporary restaurant available to eat and the food was very nice. Over all the staff couldn't have been friendlier and I would highly recommend this hotel for a stay when visiting Cork city.

We had a bit of car trouble on the way but got to the hotel in the car, the trouble was the car lost power on hills, unfortunately for us this hotel is up a very steep hill, we got the car in the driveway but had to double park and then look for help. We went into reception to check in and report the car and a Manageress was called, she came in a flurry and demanded we had to move the car immediately - they were expecting a bride and groom. While I can understand this is one of the most important days in a married couples lives myself and my husband found ourselves feeling like two flies this lady wanted to swot out of her way. We were paying guests also but were made to feel so unwelcome. She immediately began to look for a tow-truck to move the car, when in actual fact the car could drive but not up a hill, lucky for us she could not avail of one (I wonder if she had located one would she have paid for the bill). A porter came out and got another car to move so we could reverse into that space and then my husband was able to take the car (downhill) to a garage, which was recommended to us by a friend. All is well that ends well with the car but as far as our opinion in this hotel lies that is entirely another story. This Manageress was one of the most unfriendly, un-coperative and unsociable people I have ever come across in the hotel business, she leaves a lot to be desired in people skills. When we eventually got to our room, the room was very dated and small and I also noticed a not too pleasant smell coming from the bathroom but gave it the benefit of the doubt as we were frustrated by our experience to date and after a long journey from the West we were hungry and needed to chill. We headed down to the bar for food and found it cold, had to leave my jacket on, although I have to say the food was ok. We had a couple of drinks and returned to our room only to find I found the smell coming from the bathroom rather displeasing. I phoned down to reception to report the smell to be told that there was no other room available except a room for the disabled and when I enquired if it was further away from the function room (as the wedding was in full swing with music - and I hope this couple had a wonderful day) I was told the room was closer to the wedding party. The only other solution the receptionist had was to send a porter up with a can of air-freshener, which I declined. I cannot fault the staff in the hotel, apart from the Manageress we found the rest of the staff very pleasant and easy to deal with. Needless to say I will not be returning to this hotel and would not recommend it if you are looking for a nice relaxed getaway break. Signed: Displeased Roscommon Woman.
Unfortunately our stay was terrible, rude staff, room not ready, lifts not working, really difficult to locate room, maze of corridors. Confusion about rooms at check in and confusion over price at check out. While waiting at half two for room to become available we ordered drinks at bar, two pints of Heineken and two pints of Guinness, we couldn't drink them, Guinness was warm and Heineken was flat. We had two rooms booked and all four if us felt that service was terrible, we also had this hotel booked for another occasion in June and will be cancelling. Very disappointed and so glad we got it at a reduced rate.
This hotel was perfect. food was great, room was nice and warm and beds were comfy. close to cork city. 6 or 7 euro in a taxi. staff were very nice.
I have to say the bed was one of the most comfortable i ever slept in. Breakfast also very good. Would stay again.
hi team, we enjoyed the break away nice hotel staff very friendly, nice walk to city centre, just what we needed. thank peter.
When we checked in the receptionist was warm and welcoming. Unfortunately the stay went downhill from there. The rooms and hotel in general are very tired, they majorly need redecorating, wall paper is peeling off walls and the bathrooms need updating, or at minimum a good clean! The noise in the hotel is awful, I barely slept the 2 nights we stayed there due to people walking up and down corridors and talking. The food was not good, we tried dinner and breakfast. The service in the restaurant was basically none existent. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
We stayed in the hotel on the 20/21st Sept. Overall it was a great place to stay, the hotel is Victorian and has a lot of charm. The room was massive and had a balcony with a great view of the city. The nicer of the two bars was closed however, never opened all weekend. We had the dinner as part of the package and it was really nice, not a huge choice but adequate. Breakfast was nice, it was brought to you rather than buffet style but juice/cereal/fruit was out for you to help yourself. Its about a 10 min walk to center, has parking but its on a hill so a taxi back will cost you 7-10 euro. Overall a great stay and excellent value.
Stayed Friday night with friend. Had a lovely stay. Staff were friendly and helpful and food was great. Great value will definitely return.
Quite nice hotel if you only can handle the impolite receptionist.
We spent two nights BB and one dinner. We found the Hotel and staff just wonderful food excellent.Very good value. Mgt. and Jack.
Hotel was in a very central location for our needs. It had free parking and we found parking easily. Staff were very friendly and efficient and went out of their way to help us, in particular our male waiter (didn't get his name). Bedrooms were bright and spacious and the perfect temperature. We ate on the second night in the hotel restaurant. The food was excellent!!!! We had steak which was perfectly cooked & tender, and salmon which was beautiful. Breakfast table was well stocked with a good selection. The only negative point we both has was the pillows in the bedrooms were VERY hard. We will definitely recommend the hotel to friends and will be back again! Well done Ambassador on your excellent standards.
I stayed here for the weekend. the hotel is nice. The location of the hotel is not far from the main areas in the City however as its on a very steap hill I would advise walking down but getting a taxi back up. The staff in the hotel were pleasent however there did not seem to be many of them. We were waiting almost 10 mins to be seated for breakfast and another 10 to take our order. We had breakfast and dinner in the hotel as it was part of the package, the food was fair, I dont think I would have got it if it was not part of the package we had. The Wifi did not work in our room. The hotel was ok but I don't think I'd go back again
We were first posted to a room with a wierd layout and could best be discribed as a glorified B&B, this had a cracked wash basin and curtains that were hanging off the curtain runner. We were told maintenance would not be able to fix it so we were moved to the main part of the hotel. This room had great views over the city and was 110% better however it did not come close to other 4* hotels I've stayed in. We were given one tired hand towel and 1 tired bath towel for two of us. The pillows were hard and the wallpaper looked like it needed replacing. The room was huge though which was a plus. The lift jolted every time it took you to a floor and the signs to navigate the hotel rooms were confusing. The hotel in general is very tired in decor and much maintenance is required. The jacuzzii was not in operation and the fitness area had an unpleasant odour. I liked the breakfast but it multiple items were left run out towards the end of service in the buffet section. I think the Hotel outwardly has a beautiful facade however the inside is not olde world charm I was expecting. The staff were very friendly and couldn't be faulted. It would be great to see the manager restore the hotel to it's 4* status rather than making gestures to individuals after the fact. I won't return to this hotel and I cannot change a dissappointed memory into a delighted one!
Very satisfied with everything, very comfortable hotel
hotel was clean, rooms were lovely, my only issue was that when we came back to the hotel we decided to go for a drink before bed and the bartender kept "shushing" my friend at the bar which i thought was quite rude. we were in no way rowdy or bad mannered and i felt it was unacceptable for a staff member to speak to a hotel guest in this manner. but the hotel itself and all other staff members were helpful and friendly and i would recommend this hotel to a friend but obviously tell them to avoid the bar.
Enjoyed our stay. Staff very friendly. Bedroom and bathroom clean and modern, although toilet was always noisy (machine - not the filling up) for 5 minutes after use. Restaurant food had choice and was reasonable. Position of hotel wasn't great. Twenty minute downhill walk to city centre wasn't the problem, it was the steep walk up to the hotel afterwards. Good training for the Olympics!
I had a recent midweek stay at the Ambassador Hotel and was very impressed. I realistically the old world charm of the building. Our room was very spacious with a balcony and a magnificent view over Cork City. The staff were all very pleasant. Although a little our of town it is a pleasant 10 minutes walk into the city center, not so pleasant on the return as it is up a steep hill. The only negative for the whole stay was that on two of the three mornings i ordered a poached egg and had to send it back because it was hard even though i specified soft on the second morning. There was also a bit of a wait for breakfast.
i stayed at the ambassador for one night perfect location for cork city center.rooms were very spacus and well decorated.reception very welcoming.breakfast very disaponting as we arrived at 9.35 am their was no choice at the contental stand.servace was very slow and not friendly .had to ask for milk, butter and side plats things that should have been in place.enjoyed the stay but would not go back.
Waited 45 minutes to give our dinner order after agreeing to come for a late dinner because they were having a busy day. Food was lovely when we eventually got it! Good location. Rooms basic but nice
Fantastic hotel!!! I cannot give this hotel and its staff enough praise. I stayed in another hotel down the road a little and it was such a dump that I was worried about booking a hotel in the same area but what a lovely hotel the Ambassador is! I'd never write a review unless I was sure others would love it too. Great character to the building and all the staff were lovely, chatty and helpful. Walk into the city centre isn't bad and there are lovely views of the city as the hotel is on a hill. Again, had a great time and for that price it will be my hotel of choice for any time I spend in Cork city.
Enjoyed our stay at the hotel. It was good value for money. The staff were friendly and helpful. Main bar not open on weekdays. Meal in the other bar was okay, not great. It is possible to walk to city centre but it is uphill on the way back - only for the fit. Overall we were happy with the hotel.
Stayed there for 2 nights on paddy weekend with a group of 10 and I must say it was one of the most friendly hotels I have ever stayed in. April at reception was kind and professional. Another receptionist recommend an excellent Italian restaurant and our booking. Food was great. But the best part of our stay was Dom the night porter. He is a funny kind hardworking man who could not of done enough for us. He's worth his weight in gold and made our stay. We will definitely be returning to this hotel, a gem
We stayed in the Ambassador Hotel in Cork last weekend 20th January to 22nd January. It is a beautiful hotel room was first class and so was breakfast I would definitey stay there again. A 4 star rating
we stayed in this hotel in october 2010. lovely clean hotel great big bedroom, very helpful staff. great breakfast. only fault its a bit hard to find not very well sign posted and to far out of the city for a shopping trip.
Had a nice stay here, very quiet hotel, location is good, approx 10 min walk to city centre, though definitely a taxi ride back (10 euro)as it's a very steep hill.I wouldn't rate this as a 4 star hotel but the staff were lovely and food was good. The lift is old and stops with a bit of a jolt. The room was spacious and clean, bed very comfortable.Had to phone for directions as got hopelessly lost, receptionist told me step by step how to get there, fantastic!!
This is definately not a 4 star hotel. The room was cold, there was no water at all coming from the bathroom sink cold tap, there was no sheets on the bed, the curtains were ripped, the ironing board had completely come off the wall, only half the lights had bulbs, the wind whistled through the the window all night. We brought this to the receptionists attention when we checked out and she said she would get maintenance to look at it, thanks for staying, heres your bill!
Great value for money, lovely comfortable hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful. Located about 5 - 10 min walk from centre of town. Compares very favourably with other hotels in the same class.
Amazing hotel cannot fault it. Staff were fantastic rooms spotless and a fantastic view of cork city. Only problem was finding the hotel but we know for next time
The hotel was 'grand' with high ceilings and a very spacious room. The room had plenty of space for our infant to roam around. The reception staff were so friendly and the food in the lounge was great. Really good breakfast too.
Hotel is in a ideal location with a free car park which is great. Receptionist was very friendly upon check in and even though we were early our room was ready. Lifts are very old and in definite need of a renovation. Our room was on a non-smoking floor but the it reaked off smoke. Room itself is very dated and in dire need of updating. Some channels on tv didnt work and the bathroom had no bath. Was very clean though. Breakfast was without a shadow of a doubt the worse thing about hotel, it was stone cold and bacon could of been used a weapon it was so hard. If I was stay here again I would go for the room only rate which is %u20AC59.
Lovely hotel, very clean, friendly and helpful staff. Unfortunately could only stay one night but hope to go back again.
I had read some reviews about the Ambassador hotel on several sites, some good, some bad. After staying at the Ambassador hotel, I cannot understand the negative reviews. We had a beautiful stay and cannot fault the hotel on any area. We asked for a quiet room and I must say, I have never stayed in a hotel where it was so quiet in the bedroom. Everything was very pleasant; lovely spacious room, nice bathroom and decor, wonderful food and friendly staff. We will definitely be staying here again. It is an elegant hotel, but where you can feel at home. Thank you to Lidl Breaks, because of these value for money offers we would have not thought of staying at the Ambassador hotel.
