Reviews for `Woodenbridge Hotel & Lodge`

Location is stunning, especially in good weather. Stayed in main hotel. The room is a bit dated, but it was clean and comfortable and had all we needed for our 2 night stay. The food was great, with lots of choice for breakfast, and a lovely bar menu for evening dinner. What makes the Woodenbridge special is its staff - from the time we checked in until we left, the staff were pleasant, courteous, friendly and helpful. I was unwell on the first day, and a number of the staff asked my partner how I was, and if there was anything they could do. We'll be back!

This hotel claims to be the oldest in Ireland?! Certainly in the main building it appears quite antiquated but one of the most pleasant relaxing sits you will have is in a small alcove beside the reception, library type area, quiet and comfortable, an old style library with books fireplace pictures et cetera yet has a TV and power sockets for your iPad iPhone. We were located in the lodge which is across the road from the main hotel quite modern, all normal facilities a bit bland perhaps and a little sterile. all other facilities food bar et cetera are located in the main building. We had food in the restaurant on two nights and in the bar one night all excellent and good quality, but it is perhaps the staff that make this hotel such a pleasant experience all staff were nice but I would've liked to mention Chloe and Holly O'Brien in particular for their excellent polite efficient service. There is no phone reception on normal services here or at least on any of the ones we were on. Wi-Fi if it will stay connected is very good and fast. Some very nice short walks down by the river and visit to the world War one memorial is quite informative if you are a local Wicklow person.

I stayed in Woodenbridge Lodge for two nights mid week, with family. The rooms were clean and fresh, the staff were very helpful and friendly. We ate in the restaurant one night and the bar the other, overall, it was very good. The weather was awfull ... unfortunately, the hotel staff couldn't do anything about that!!

A good all-round Hotel offering value for money and good service. My partner & I stayed here for 2 nights during late July, we found the rooms clean, staff friendly and restaurant food good and reasonably priced Bar drinks a bit expensive and not much to do within the immediate vicinity-no walks, alternative entertainment or attractions. Great for a short stay 2-3 days

Loved every minute of our stay. Everything was simply a question away to the ever present and helpful staff. P.S. as a walker a little more knowledge of the rambling routes in the immediate area would be helpful. Four Stars from me. Michael Price.

We staid it the Woodenbridge Hotel for a long weekend ,this hotel is old and quaint - just beautiful for its years. I spotted this hotel years ago when we were driving through this Avoca area I always wanted to come back and stay in this hotel and here we are , the hotel is great value for money .We had a bedroom at the front of the hotel which had a lovely views down the Avoca valley which was stunning early in the morning, the bedroom was clean , comfortable, well laid out , and cleaning room service each day . Food in the dining room was beautiful well portioned and tasty . The hotel has a lovely communal area if you want to take time to meet people and have a chat , the visiting people come from all parts of the globe. Staff made the holiday - in all different parts of the hotel staff made you most welcome and nothing was of any bother . Many thanks Ivan Nothern Ireland .

Stayed here on Saturday 18th July. The hotel is small and quaint but we stayed in the new lodge part which is located across the road. The views are spectacular and the setting is lovely. The room was clean and basic, all we needed really. The food in the bar was fab - above average for bar food. We had drinks in the bar also but I found that it got packed very easy so we ended up sitting in the lobby, which was fine. Breakfast was lovely - table service only. No buffet. However, the only problem I had was that we had to wait for a table for our breakfast and, when we got our table, we waited 15 minutes to be served and then another 20 minutes or so for our food - families/couples who came in after us were served before us. But apart from this little hiccup, I would stay here again with my partner. Not much for kids so I would recommend it as a couples retreat only!

Couples Weekend - Jul '13. Stayed in the lodge across the road from the hotel itself. The room was lovely with a nice view. Had dinner in the hotel, good quality food. Would stay here again.

Beautiful location. Stayed in original hotel (the lodge accommodation is across the road). Rooms looked newly refurbished. Nice size and clean. Only complaint would be the pillows....like sleeping on cardboard boxes....bring your own if you can....

Hotel was in a stunning location, with lovely walks to Avoca and around the Wicklow countryside. The staff were very friendly and rooms basic but very clean with full amenities. The bar/restaurant were decent with nice atmosphere. Would recommend to a friend

A beautiful, quaint and charming hotel in an excellent location. Perfect for exploring the delights of Wicklow. Staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgable. My only complaint was a drunken golfer singing When I'm 64, at 5am on his balcony underneath our room. He was tuneless but can't hold that against the hotel. I look forward to returning.

My husband and I stayed here for the two nights of the bank holiday this june, we were disappointed that we were only offerd the lodge to stay in and not the hotel, it was very basic but clean, the walk was all uphill to the hotel to eat breakfast and dinner and to have a drink etc...the food also was on the pricey side and with no opposition they could get away with this because the hotel is miles away from anywhere. There was a girl called Clare singing on the Sunday night and she made all the difference to our stay because only for her I think we would have died of boredom. Bernadette

We stayed in the lodge part of the hotel which is across the road from the main hotel. The rooms were quite large with tea/coffee facilities and a bath. The food which was included in the deal was fantastic, we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Staff in the restaurant were courteous and attentive. Breakfast room service was also available at the lodge although we felt bad when we realised that staff had to carry it from the main hotel all the way across to the lodge. The location of the hotel is fantastic and very relaxing for a weekend away. Our only issue was a slight problem with the bill in that the included dinner was charged twice. Once pointed out, it was rectified immediately. I would definitely stay here again although on our next visit, we would aim to stay in the main body of the hotel.

I have stayed here three times and have never been disappointed. The hotel is in such a peaceful, quiet location with many fantastic walks surrounding it. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The rooms are very comfortable and clean, I stayed in the lodge most recently and the room had a small balcony facing the river. If you're looking for a relaxing stay Woodenbridge is a wonderful option!

Lovely old world charm. This is a very cozy country retreat and we enjoyed ourselves very much. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating and you could not hope for a more beautiful setting. Highly recommended.

Natasha scored 2 / 5 on 23/07/2012

When I booked I was sure I had booked to stay in the Hotel it turned out I was staying in the Lodge. Very basic but clean. Staff where friendly and the food was excellent. As we where not in the Hotel we had to walk over from the lodge to the Hotel if we wanted to drink or eat in the bar or restaurant. Surroundings beautiful but nothing in Woodenbridge except for the Hotel, Lodge, Golf course and a garage. If you looking to get away from everything including mobile phone coverage with a clean bed for the night this is the place. If you like you comfort and modern style not for you.

Stayed here a few months ago, room was lovely with a nice view and a balcony, overall a nice hotel for a 3 star. We had our dinner in the hotel restaurant as we had booked it with the deal, bad idea we were given a menu with a choice of 3 main courses, was thinking menu was bad and ordered something i wouldn't normally eat, then i saw people ordering nice food like steak,we weren't given that option i wouldn't of minding paying the extra for decent food , we didn't no we were being given a special menu for lidl customers with second class food on it until we were eating and seen the nice food coming out to the other diners.

Marie scored 4 / 5 on 11/10/2011

The service was really good. Unfortunately I was with my daughter who is in a wheelchair and my elderly parents so the only suitable accommodation was in the lodges across the road (oll too much slope up and down for wheelchair) which meant I had to drive to hotel for meals etc. Other the rooms and service really nice.

Like some other guests mentioned, this hotel should be listed as the Woodenbridge Lodge. The Lodge was fine- warm and comfortable. Its disappointing on arrival to find out that accomodation is not in the hotel. The food in restaraurant was ok on the night we ate. While most staff were terrific, we did have a somewhat unpleasant experience with one male waiter who seemed to go out of his way to point out that we were on a Lidl break and not paying full rate i.e. not to expect too much. We have been on six breaks and at each and every hotel there has been no evicence of lesser service or menus offered to Lidl customers. I felt like reminding him we were paying his wages and he should be thinking of how he could encourage us to come back or send our friends there This is absolutely no reflection on the other staff who were friendly, courteous and efficient. Vis a vis Lidl breaks, they are fantastic - allowing people to get away and, keeping them in Ireland, so that our cash goes into the Irish economy.

Had a lovely stay, We were in Lodge across the road, rooms nice, very clean, but on down side, we had to go over to Hotel for Breakfast, room service option bit expensive at %u20AC5 per person, we eat in the bar first night, very good, and went to Restaurant on second night, was told it was Italian by man behind Reception? It wasn't, but it was ok, Breakfast was good. Would go back again. But would include Meal Deal.

stayed in this hotel overnight when we were attending a wedding nearby. Staff were very helpful and pleasant, room was basic but clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very enjoyable. But the best feature would be it location where you could see the delights of the Wicklow countryside. Would make a great base for touring the area. Overall good value for money

These breaks are great value for money will use them as much as possible. The hotel seemed nice but they put us up in the lodge part, was cold and unwelcoming.I wouldnt rate dinner thet evening pototoes were lumpy and the breaded chicken was far to greasy.Dessert was lovely as was breakfast. The location and surrounding area were lovely.

Ann scored 5 / 5 on 17/11/2010

Was a bit disappointed to be put in one of the lodges across the road from the main hotel, but apart from that everything was perfect. food was gorgeous and staff very good and very friendly. Have used Lidl breaks before and love the value for money it provides

This is a beautiful hotel in an idylic location, particularly if you paly golf as we did. The staff were great, food very good and exceptional value for money. Thanks for a great break. John

Jdy scored 3 / 5 on 21/07/2010

Enjoyable break away. Only downside I felt was that when we went to the restaurant we were given a menu for the restaurant which was then taken away from us and replaced with the bar food menu. The food was still nice but felt we shouldn't have been given the restaurant set menu first if we were only able to have the bar food menu in the restaurant.

My husband and I had a wonderful weekend in Wicklow, no wonder it is called the garden of Ireland. We stayed in the lodge, i did request to stay in the Hotel i was informed on arrival this was not possible and you should state this on the Lidl -Breakers web page. However the lodge was lovely and comfortable (no prizes for decor0 the food was very good, staff friendly and efficient. The Hotel was quaint and homely and we would loved to have stayed longer, we will definitely go back again in the near future

We had a thoroughly relaxing break at the Woodenbridge hotel in a very beautiful part of the country. The staff were very friendly and the meals at the restaurant were lovely. We stayed at the lodge and had the sound of the river from our room - bliss. We have recommended the hotel to others and it was great value with Lidl breaks S & P

Stunning location with fantastic views, but it is a very old hotel. Fairly basic but staff are very friendly. Coeliac menu is NOT suitable for coeliacs.

Brianandserena scored 3 / 5 on 29/06/2010

We stayed one night in this hotel as a weekend get away not too far from Dublin. The lobby is lovely, very old world and the main hotel itself is also very nice and charming in a nice location. However, we were not told in advance that we were staying in the 'lodge' which is a new block built across the road. It is modern and bland on the outside and poorly decorated and basic in the rooms. The worst element of the hotel by far was the dinner (included in the price) which was ALL REHEATED and was just disgusting (thankfully the fried breakfast was nice in the morning - we were very hungry). It was more like food from a bad canteen than from a restaurant. We were also disappointed with the bar which is small and had a 'one man band' playing. It was more for locals than guests and certainly wasn't appropriate for a romantic evening. Unfortunately the hotel was so isolated we didn't have much option to go anywhere else. Overall it is not a destination for couples unless you're just using it as a place to put your head down (it is clean, the rooms are adequate and the staff pleasant) while you go play golf somewhere. There are far nicer B&Bs in Aughrim.
