Reviews for `The Connacht Hotel`

Damien scored 3 / 5 on 04/12/2024

Bar and restaurant were nice. Staff very friendly and prompt service. Portions size could be bigger. Fine breakfast great selection of hot and cold foods. Family room was only ok. Decor was very outdated. There was a crack on the mirror. Other than that all was fine.

Clodagh scored 4 / 5 on 27/11/2024

We really enjoyed our stay. We had lunch on arrival which was very enjoyable. Our waitress Zoe was very helpful and gave us loads of tips and advice about visiting galway. Check in was very efficient. Room was ideal. Dinner in the bar was very nice though just a little too busy for us, food was very good though. It was noisy at times on the corridors late in the night. Breakfast queue was very long and even though we booked we still had to queue but it moved very quick and breakfast was delicious. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would return. Staff are great!

Lovely hotel, stayed with my husband and 2 children, rooms spacious and very clean. Food was a bit on the expensive side, portions very small but delicious. Plenty of choice for breakfast. Would stay here again.

Hilda scored 3 / 5 on 14/04/2022

The room we were given was for 3 not 4. Hotel clearly over sold rooms and we ended up with a camp bed that collapsed during the night and when it was delivered we were told the hotel had run out of pillows. No effort to make amends poor customer service. Feeble apology over phone. Money was paid up front so when I handed back room key I wasn’t asked how my stay was. Busy at breakfast and food not replenished at a speed to meet demand. Hotel greedy just wanted money so pack everybody in. I would not stay again.

Adrian scored 3 / 5 on 15/02/2022

Good stay overall, the Hotel is in great condition . Nice room, the beds were 1 of the best sleeps, we thought the lady at the reception was a bit abrupt and not inclined to help when checking in,the service in the restaurant was all over the place (we got the food before the drinks) Pizza was OK, the lamb tomahawks(should ve returned to kitchen)they were served rare and untrimmed[the skin of the lamb and sinnew were still on them/ also had some stuff sprinkled on them that made them taste even worse. Breakfast had plenty of choice and was managed greatly defiant to huge attendance Previous experience was better,so don't know if I'll be over again

David scored 3 / 5 on 04/09/2020

Very disappointed that the bar shut at 11pm and as residents we were unable to purchase a drink after this time. This would definitely put us off staying here again.

Eva scored 3 / 5 on 31/08/2020

The 2nd night we stayed a group of lads were in the room next store and kept us awake all night. I would suggest you dont book groups into rooms beside famlies. The hotel is big enough not to do this.

Excellent is the only word I can use for The Connacht Hotel. I attended with my family and spent two days one night in the hotel, very spacious rooms, kids loved the swimming pool which was warm and comfortable, breakfast and evening meal were delicious and the service was pretty fast despite the hotel being completely full. Definitely will be returning to The Connacht on our next visit to Galway.

We stayed on a 2 night break in the hotel for our 20th wedding anniversary, I e-mailed the hotel to ask for a warm quiet room and I was very surgprised with the result, they upgraded us to a suite, looking out over the garden, left a big bowl of fresh fruit, chocolates and a card in our room. I was very very happy with our stay, the breakfast was lovely, all the staff were so nice and helpful, the room was very warm, we went to the leisure centre and it was spotless, showers were hot and the changing rooms very clean. The hotel was very busy but we had no problem at night with noise. Overall we had a fabelous time and they made our anniversary break extra special. I would recommend this hotel to everyone, hopefully we will be back soon to have another break with them. 5 star rating. Fidelma

Hi to all in the Connaught Hotel it was my husband and son recently stayed with ye my husband could not say a bad word about his stay he thought the from the resecepion to the bar staff food was just fantastic he's a great believer in the small things ie good morning / how are you today / etc cost nothing and its those small things which cost nothing make all the difference the one small thing was the 11/30 to vacat the room when the last breakfast is 11am so you have to vacate the room before you go to the 11am sitting as one would be under pressure to get back to get your stuff out but overall a great few days great staff great food definitely a 5 star kind regards Noel Hennessy

Laurels scored 3 / 5 on 01/12/2015

Hotel staff were very welcoming quick and easy check in. We were a group of eight people , the bar area is divided into eating and no eating areas which was a bit awkward with 8 people, but we were accommodated in the restaurant. Rooms are pretty basic could do with adding a throw on the beds as per the photos on the advertisement running in the reception area. All in all a good stay food good and breakfast o k. All eight said they would return

Lorraine scored 3 / 5 on 01/12/2015

Steve scored 4 / 5 on 30/03/2015

Great stay at the Connacht Hotel. The rooms were lovely and big. The only mark down is an old TV in the room and a little chipped paint in the bathroom from condensation. The bed was lovely but the best thing was the fantastic breakfast which was 5 star

Sharon scored 5 / 5 on 14/03/2015

Stayed for one night, reception staff was great friends were staying too so as had separate bookings he kindly put our rooms close to each other as were previously booked on different isles of hotel so was good of him to do this. Rooms erre grand and spacious nice bathroom clean but toilet didn't flush to well..breakfast next morning was a self service and could take as much as wanted with plenty to offer I was spoilt for choice and for 39.50 a night it was definitely a great bargain. Would stay here again. Great hotel

Pool area was lovely and clean, breakfast in the hotel was amazing, just once you got there before 10 otherwise the ques were mental! I stayed with my family for the weekend. The girls were 16. They really enjoyed the leisure centre and swimming pool. They remarked how friendly and helpful the staff were. My husband and I thought the rooms were comfortable, clean and spacious. The girls at the reception desk were very obliging and helpful. We really enjoyed out stay and will definitely return to the hotel. The taxi service is excellent and the hotel is only 5mins away from Eyre Square.

Eilish scored 4 / 5 on 16/02/2015

Loved the hotel apart from being woken up during the night by a crying baby.

Sylvie scored 4 / 5 on 05/02/2015

The hotel location was good, with the regular bus service into Galway it was easy to commute there on an evening. Ideal place to stay if you are wanting to drive to other places such as Connemara National Park, which is well worth a visit. The hotel room was clean, very comfortable and lovely and warm for a good night sleep! The leisure facilities were average, pool was a good size but we felt it was unnecessary to ask customers to wear a swimming cap. The breakfast was nice, though the honey provided was watered down. The dinner in the restaurant was good value for money and tasty. The Thai Green Curry was delicious! Staff were friendly and helpful.

Declan scored 3 / 5 on 02/02/2015

Room was clean and front line staff very friendly. However when we asked if we could get a pancake for our 4 year old who doesn't eat sausages etc, we were told that "Chef was too busy" which was disappointing in this day of age.

Jess scored 4 / 5 on 15/01/2015

To Lidl Breaks Team, Marie is my name, I was delighted with our trip. My Mother is from Galway so as a family we decided to take a trip to this Hotel. We have stayed here on may occasions over the years. The Connacht Hotel suited us perfectly as we had a big group of people ranging from 2 to 82. The pool was excellent for us as a group. We love this Hotel family orientated, staff are so easy going and friendly. We had a fab meal in the evening and we had 20 at our table and they were super . I have to say their food is excellent and the place was packed out for Halloween but they were brilliant. Looking at the moment on your site for a trip soon with my Mum. Our booking with you was great I have had many a holiday with LIdl Breaks and always fab. Will be on soon cheers Marie. 5 star

We had no difficulties with this hotel. very efficient on check in, good sized rooms well laid out, staff excellent, plenty of car parking, buffet breakfast well stocked with a large selection, Just one complaint - there was no iron/ironing board in our room, may have been available from reception, didn't enquire, but for guests travelling through this is an essential item, otherwise an excellent hotel and would have no problem going there again (but I will bring my own iron)

Maria scored 5 / 5 on 13/06/2014

Have just stayed 2 nights with my husband for a break. Really enjoyed it .Leisure centre top class. Great choice of food for breakfast except the juices from juice machine could only be described as water. Jugs of real orange juice would be way better. Bar lovely great atmosphere with loads of space. Staff very friendly. When I asked we got an upgrade which was lovely and spacious with little kitchen. Already had stayed at Christmas time with my 3 friends to go shopping ,that is why I came back. On that occasion when we arrived in the morning we had fabulous scones in the bar area before we headed into the city. Great bus schedule from outside hotel.

This hotel is great for families, it is clean, spacious and the décor in the bar is fab. We went on a family break, the children loved the kiddies pool and the bubble pool. The bar served food all day and the restaurant food was top quality. The Staff were very helpful and friendly. It is a short walk into Galway city and very close to a cinema. We really enjoyed our stay and we will be back.

Very pleased with our stay at The Connacht Hotel. Our Family Room was a very decent size, the staff very friendly, the swimming pool was lovely, my holistic treatment was perfect. The food was okay, with a decent children's menu. Kids' club looked great, although our children didn't partake. The hotel was busy and lively but felt relaxed at the same time. There were queues for breakfast - we had ours in our room on the second morning. All in all, we were very happy and would definitely stay there again.

Amanda scored 3 / 5 on 21/04/2014

Staff were lovely and very accommodating. Was slightly disappointed with the 3:30 check in and 11:30 check out. You've hardly any time in the hotel at all. The rooms were small. We booked a family room, but what we got was a double room with a camp bed put in so it was cramped. It shouldn't be advertised as a family room when it's not a family room. The bar food was lovely and there was a good variety of food for breakfast. Finding the leisure club was fun, it's a good bit away and badly sign posted. There were two or three locked doors with leisure club written on them. We found it eventually. Pool was great size and kids loved it. Stayed in better hotels. I wouldn't go back.

Very standard. Room/ En- suite nice. However thought there was a meal included in the package to find out upon arrival there was not. Be careful when booking with the lidl- breaks to read thoroughly as apparently the meal is offered only with some hotels. Overall hotel nice.

Room nice, staff extremely pleasant. Food very average. Unfortunately fire alarm went off in the middle of the night, but staff extremely apologetic the following day and offered to upgrade for next visit. Would definitely consider staying again, but would eat elsewhere.

Stayed here on Sunday March 16 for one night B&B with the family. Great, freindly and helpful staff. Excellent kids club activities. The pool was great too. Really well run considering the size of the hotel. The only downfall was that were a few stag and hen parties on and it was a bit noisy late at night. I will stay here again, and would recommend it

Great hotel, lovely rooms, leisure centre & great customer service. Lovely cocktail bar & also food is lovely. Reception staff are always so helpful & friendly. Have stayed many times and have requested late checkout and always accommodated -I have never had a complaint about the Connacht Hotel, I will be back again soon hopefully.

The staff were very friendly and courteous, the leisure centre - while it did show some signs of age - was a great addition to a very, very reasonably priced Valentine's Weekend break. The room was nice and facilities therein were standard. A slight issue with the TV remote-control, but no major incidents. Breakfast is substantial, if not luxurious. My main quibble was the food in the bar. We ate there on arrival and it really wasn't great. I still don't understand how a hotel kitchen can't turn-out a decent toasted sandwich; it was served with the ubiquitous side of browning greenery (inedible); the soup was barely lukewarm and our (tiny portion) of chips were hard. We were charged for 1 tea that wasn't ordered and felt that the prices were very high for the food (e.g. €3.50 for the mini-bucket of chips - €30+ for a quick pit-stop bite for 2 people is not cheap). However, all round, a good experience and good value for a well-situated hotel. I agree with another reviewer, that check-in is quite late (3.30), but I asked for a late check-out on our departure date and were given the room til 1pm free of charge, so that was a bonus.

We, my partner and myself, went to Connacht hotel for one night. The ambience was very warm. Reception staff were welcoming and friendly. When we went to our room, there were two Cots in it and we asked to have them moved which they did in about five minutes. Breakfast was excellent and very enjoyable. There are two things which we were not pleased with. Time of check in was to late at 3.30. It was 5 0'Clock by the time we got into town, and almost dark. The early check out meant that we did not have opportunity to have decent rest in morning, if we were do all of the things a person needs to do, as well as going for Breakfast. The only other observation was that there was two Fire Extinguishers at end of corridor where our room was situated, Access to them was impeded by vacuum cleaners which could have had serious consequences in case of fire. We would give it Four Stars

Cosy and comfortable bar and quick response to problem in room. Reception staff could not be any friendlier. Music very good in the bar the 2 nights we where there. Food - Fast service of the bar food and so tasty restaurant quality and great value. Staff lovely and always checking if we where ok with everything. Could not fault breakfast selection or lunch menu. Chef and waiters deserve alot of praise. Highly recommend to everyone and would definitely return

This is my third or fourth time staying at this hotel, first since it changed names and I was still very pleased with everything. All of the staff were very efficient and pleasant, from reception right through to the cleaning staff. The food was even better than my previous stays, some things could be updated such as carpets that have become frayed and the iron and ironing boards in bedrooms could be better, but I have been told by the reception staff that these are in line for a full overhaul. Overall an excellent place to stay very close to the city.

We stayed Sat night. We waited nearly three quarters of an hour for a table didn't get seated till 9 30. Food was very good. Leisure centre and pool very clean. In the morning for breakfast there was a long queue no communication by a member of staff about it. Just person at entrance when we did arrive at top. It was after 12 when we got back to room and then we were locked out. Maybe if a supervisor was taking any problem on board and communicate with people. Overall it is a lovely hotel. We enjoyed the break. Rooms were lovely.

We really enjoyed our stay. Staff very friendly. first time to stay in the Connacht but would certainly stay there again. Read a review somewhere that said the Lidl clients got a different menu in the dining room for the evening meal but that is downright "lies" . We got the same menu as the rest of the customers and we enjoyed our dinner. Out the side windows could do with a bit of a tidy. Please check the orange juice at the breakfast . But overall the hotel is very good. Staff on reception very helpful and pleasant and greets each customer with a smile .

Hotel is a maze and can be difficult to find your way about as sinage is poor. Should give out GPS units to direct to rooms!! Carpeting and walls in corridors are of drap colours and in need of livening up. Some paintings/pictures and flower arrangements would help to give it a lift. Good buffet breakfast but have to queue as busy for periods.

Sadie scored 4 / 5 on 02/09/2013

I have stayed in this hotel quite a few times now and I always enjoy it. The only complaint I would have is with the Bar service downstairs, it can take ten to fifteen minutes to get served, and not because there are a lot of people in the bar but the staff seem to be busy doing other duties. I definately reccommend The Connacht and will stay here again.

overnight stay marred only by manner of dining room supervisor but to be fair when receptionist was made aware of our treatment at checkout she was very apologetic and compensated us. This is a fine hotel in which I have stayed many times over the years without complaint. Very busy on this occasion so staff seemed under pressure to deliver the high standard usually on offer. However we did enjoy our stay ,food was good but bedrooms were uncomfortably warm as they are not air conditioned but this would probably not be a problem in weather conditions other than we are experiencing at the moment.Would have no difficulty returning.

FOOD: EXCELLENT CLEANLINESS: EXCELLENT STAFF: VERY HELPFUL AND NICE POOL/GYM: GREAT SIZE AND CLEAN, ONE DRAWBACK IS HAVING TO WALK THROUGH THE LOBBY, ALONG THE ATRIUM, UP A FLIGHT OF STAIRS, DOWN A CORRIDOR AROUND A CORNER, BACK DOWN A STAIRS AND YOUR AT THE RECEPTION DESK FOR THE POOL. AKA BAD LAYOUT TO HOTEL. ROOMS: GOOD SIZE, VIEW IS OK NOT MUCH TO LOOK AT, LIKE ABOVE THE LAYOUT TO GETTING TO THE ROOM IS RIDICULOUSLY LONG.

Very happy with our stay in the Connacht Hotel for one night at Easter with our two kids. The room we were given had a double bed and one single. We phone reception to ask for a fold-out bed for our second child and they apologised that it had not already been done and sent it up within a few minutes. The room was a little bit small but clean and fresh which was fine. The swimming pool was great for the kids with a bubble area they loved and good sized changing area with plenty of hairdryers. We didn't eat dinner in the hotel so I can't comment on that. In the evening our two kids went to the kids club, which was an extra 10euros altogether. They played games and then watched a movie which they enjoyed though they were a little disappointed that there was not a kids disco as had been promised but I understand that the staff have to try to suit the majority of kids that are there. My husband and I enjoyed the free time to have a drink together in the bar without the kids. There were a lot of kids in the bar but all well behaved. Can't say the same for the crowds of kids running around the corridors and kicking footballs up and down the corridors. The parents are more to blame than the hotel but I do think they should have been asked to stay quiet. Breakfast next morning was buffet style and was fine without being outstanding. My husband said the coffee was very good. I was a bit disappointed that there was just sliced bread and brown bread, no croissants or pastries of any sort, no cheeses or cold meats. But the cooked breakfast was good and fresh and the breakfast area was well looked after not messy and chaotic like some hotels. We felt the break was very good value for the money we paid for it. We would return with the kids but would not recommend going there as a couple.

We stayed in this hotel on the 9th March. It is a lovely hotel. Rooms very clean and comfortable. Staff very pleasant and helpful. We arrived around 2o'clockpm and our room was ready. When we came back in around 1.30am we were checked at the door that we were staying there and our room number and name was checked. We felt this was very good as no one would be able to get in who wasn't staying there. To get to the llift you had to put your room key in the door to enter the corridor where lifts were. Again this was great security. We went to bed. There was a bit of noise with girls coming in, i would say from a hen night, but nothing unruly. Then at 4am we woke to banging and what sounded like kicking of a door on our corridor. Also shouting. It was obvious the person making all the noise was locked out of room and had no key with him. It would be a good idea when security is checking you at the entrance that they ask to see your key. This would help avoid all the noise we heard. Each time we were going to ring reception the noise woiulod stop and then start up again. Although you were awake you were trying to go to sleep and for that reason we didn't ring down to reception. Our daughter and her partner were also staying on that corridor and were kept awake also. When we were checking out we said it to the girl on reception. She was very nice and very apologetic. We went into the bar to meet our daughter and partner and the receptionist/manageress (not sure which) came in after us and asked for my husband. They went outside and she offered him lunch for us but as we were heading backa to Dublin he declined. She then offered him an upgrade for when we would next be in Galway staying in the Carlton/Connacht. He accepted this. I have to say that the girl was very nice, helpful and apologetic over the whole matter. It is very nice to see this in a hotel. Yes, we will definitely be back, and we look forward to our upgrade. We wish the hotel every success for the future.

Our stay in the Carlton (renamed the Connaught) was excellent from start to finish. We found the staff friendly and helpful with all requests made by us. The bar food and breakfast was well ahead of what we were expecting. Our kids enjoyed the pool and kid club. Traveling in and our of the city was easy with the bus stop nearby which enabled us to leave the car behind. The bedrooms were comfortable and quiet. Overall this is very much a family orientated hotel which offers great service at very good value. We will return.

We are just back from a lovely stay at this Hotel, I have been passing the door for years and never gave it a second thought - but I am delighted that we did and it was excellent. I would give it 5 stars. The room was grand and the food was excellent, the kids loved the kids club and the pool - it has everything. I like my sausages cremated so I was a bit let down by this as it looked like they were deep fried and not grilled to death which is how I like them, But apart from the sausages, very nice and friendly staff especially at reception, the place is very clean and plenty of space. Enjoy, we did. Kids aged 4 and 6 loved it.

Having stayed in the Carlton Hotel in Galway on many occasions, we felt that we knew what we were getting, however we were a little disappointed. The room was freezing when we got into it but in fairness when we contacted reception a guy came to our room within minutes and put on the radiator for us. After a few hours it got extremely warm, seemed there was no in between with it. The carpet in the room we were in was burnt. The water in the sink in the bathroom was warm , even when seemingly on cold, which meant we were left brushing our teeth with warm water. We had to ring down for batteries for the tv remote too. They're not major complaints but just felt that standards a slipped a little in the hotel. Did not use leisure centre so can't comment there

Myself, my partner, her daughter and her parents arrived for a one night stay on Friday 4th Jan. After a long trip to the Cliffs of Moher we were welcomed with a amzing hospitality. We got rooms beside each other which were clean - spacious and more importantly very warm. In actual fact to walk around the hotel you didn't need a coat which was a very plesant surprise. We ate in the Resturant which was great value when we went with the dinner for 2 x 2 and I would recommend paying the fiver supplement for the steaks. There was even live music in the bar later that evening for myself and my partner to chill out too. The next day after a huge breakfast we all went to the Lesuire Centre and my partners daughter went to the Kids Club which she really enjoyed. All-in-all a perfect break for the family and the Lesure Centre was great plus family friendly. I will be back again :0)

Stayed one night in the Carlton Galway found the hotel great. It was ideally located 5 mins drive from city centre and for that reason alone I would stay there again. It was clean and staff were very helpful great value for money. The food was good and the room was large and had enough room for three people. Ideally for weekend away or break with the kids as it had ice-skating while we were there. Overall would use this hotel again and would rate it highly for comfort and hospitality.

But this activity generated a great buzz in the Carlton which is very family friendly and well located close to the city centre. All in all an a first class property.Would certainly make a return booking. Only minus was lack of adjustable reading/bedside lighting. E & U,Mature couple.Midlands.

Stayed one night, Saturday, and it was fine. Staff are very friendly and the food was good. Near enough to town , about 5 mins in a car. Loads of taxis available and a bus stop across the road. Stayed in the bar on Saturday night which was ok because there was a crowd but only for that the bar lacks any atmosphere, it,s like a big lobby or waiting area. Also the two piece band finished at 12.30 on the dot which is not much good if your looking to get away for a night out and don't want the hassle of going in to town. Anyway don't let that stop you, it's a grand hotel and we will be back again because of location and the staff.

Stayed in the Carlton Hotel Galway at the weekend with my husband and we had a fanastic time. The hotel was very busy but we had no bother finding a table at dinnertime as everyone is shown where to sit, the food was lovely with a good choice, good music in the bar each night and the leisure center was really enjoyable. We have booked to come back again in December when the ice rink is at the hotel and the Xmas markets are in town. The staff were all very pleasent and friendly.Thank you LIDL- BREAKS for making these weekends possible at such a great rate and a great range of hotels.Hope ye have the same in the New Year. Thanks again.

we stayed in this hotel for one night, on arrival the girl in reception was very nice and polite, very helpful. she advised us that when using the pool we needed to bring the towels with us from our room, which we did no problem..... when we got to reception of the leisure club we were told we needed swimming hats... this we were not told at reception, our room was lovely but there was an awful bad smell of stale smoke in the room, I specifically asked for a non smoking room so I didnt like this at all, I had asked for towels to be brought to the room at 8pm as we had used ours in the pool, I was told they would be there in ten minutes, I arrived back to my room at 1.30am and still no towels, 9.00am following morning house keeping knocked on the door to clean the room, we were only there for one night and check out was not until 11.30 we had a late night the previous night so this was not good. on the up side the staff in the hotel were more than helpful, restaurant staff were so nice, they couldnt do more for us, reception staff very nice also, As i did complain at check out the kind receptionist gave us the drinks on our room comlimentary which made it better :)

This is a great family hotel - not surprisingly it rained when we were in Galway, but we were able to enjoy the facilities in the Leisure Centre which kept 2 little girls very happy. The staff in the hotel were extremely helpful and friendly. An added bonus was the separate Euro 2012 fanzone (or probably Kidzone would have been more appropriate!), which meant that we parents with little children also got to enjoy the match without feeling like we were disturbing any of the child free guests. The food was not as good as the previous time we stayed (hence 4* review) but we stay in the Carlton quite regularly and will be back again!

Limericklady scored 3 / 5 on 18/06/2012

The hotel was definitely dated, but clean. Had a lovely breakfast. Leisure centre was very nice and bright. and airy. Great entertainment on Friday night in bar. Staff friendly. Room very warm. Tea and coffee making facilities in room. Able to open room windows.View lacking. We were in Block A, a very long walk to leisure centre if you are not good on the legs. Good value for money and yes would stay there again.

Wasn't too impressed with the room, was very shabby with a view of the back car park!. Renovations going on and hotel was very dusty. Went for dinner and cost €30 for two pasta with only water?? The portion was tiny too. Won't be returning, didn't even bother with breakfast in the morning was so annoyed.

Sally scored 1 / 5 on 25/05/2012

From start to finish our stay was a disaster; we had thought it would be a 4 star refurbished hotel, sadly reality was 3 room changes in first 16 hours as first family Room was on smoking floor, second family room, non-smoking, plug in bath was blocked and load of dirt came back whilst partner in shower, we got upgraded at this stage to a suite and given vouchers for free meal each, unfortunately food in restaurant was poor and we found 3 big bones in what was supposed to be a cod fillet. Breakfast was also poor and service overall in hotel not great. Rooms are shabby and old and hotel overheated. Only good part was leisure facilities which were great, big well equipped gym and pool. Avoid this hotel at all costs, we won't be returning

I stayed in the Carlton Hotel on Friday night last and as usual I enjoyed it very much. Lovely hotel, rooms, bar and lounge and very nice staff. My only complaint is that next time (soon I hope) I will stay 2 or 3 nights and avail of the leisure centre. One night is just not enough!

Jacinta scored 4 / 5 on 30/04/2012

Paulinhio scored 4 / 5 on 30/04/2012

Nice Hotel. If you're visiting Galway City though, you need to add €20 per night to the hotel cost as this is the round-trip taxi fare. Carlton should consider running a complimentary shuttle bus. I'm sure the cost of this would be easily re-couped by the extra bookings it would generate.

Eilín scored 3 / 5 on 17/04/2012

We only stayed there for one night. We were given a suite in Block D, which was a long way from the reception area of the hotel. It was more like a one room flat, seperate bedroom, living area and of course bathroom. Breakfast was lovely. The night we stayed the hotel was very lively, Labour Conferance in NUI and visitors down for the Connaght / Ulster match on the Saturday.

Thomas scored 2 / 5 on 17/04/2012

There was one major issue which I had with this hotel and it probably would prevent me booking again. My wife and I were staying for three nights and had no hot water until the day before we left and even at that were had to turn on a booster pump in advance of getting water. I had said to reception twice and was given a notice about if we required extra hot water we would have to turn on this pump. But as I kindly informed the receptionist, this was not extra water I was looking for as we had no hot water at all. As a result from this the following day was the same, and altough we did turn on the pump before we headed off for the day, when we came back this was cold again. We, as a result of this found ourselves going down to the leisure centre two days for showers and having said this to reception again found no satisfaction which to be honest was disappointing as hot water in a 4star rating hotel wouldnt be exactly considered a luxury. Even a hostel would have a hot shower and hot water. This was the only complaint I would have on our stay and the fact we didnt seem to get anything back from the hotel, as we were there for three nights this was inconvenient.

Elaine scored 5 / 5 on 15/04/2012

The hotel was great, we were upgraded to a suite as it was so busy. The staff were great, the food was great. The hotel was family friendly and the pool was outstanding. Definitely will go back again.

Trish scored 3 / 5 on 11/04/2012

There was no heating on in the hotel, it was quite cold. Breakfast was fantastic, room was satisfactory, except for not having any heating. Dinner first evening quite nice, second evening wasn't really edible. Because it was a bank holiday weekend there was quite a lot of families with young children about. They were using the bar and while some left by 9:00p.m. there was still quite a lot of young children there until late. Not very nice for other guests. The entertainment in the bar on Sunday night left a lot to be desired. All staff were very efficent and friendly, couldn't be faulted in any way. I would return to the hotel but for bed & breakfast only, perhaps the bar food would have been a bettter option for evening meal in preference to the menu in the restaurant.

We have just returned from our second break in the Carlton Galway. We enjoyed our first visit so much we had to go back again. The Carlton is a lovely comfortable, family friendly hotel. The food is excellent and the rooms are really nice too. The pool and leisure facilities are very good. Its well located for trips into Galway city and Connemara and even down into Co. Clare and the Burren. The hotel has a very well run kids club which our little boy enjoyed on both occasions. Last but not least the staff are very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel particularly to families with young children. G.Webb. Dublin

This hotel is excellent. I cannot recommend it highly enough. The staff are friendly and very helpful. We only had bar food, but it was superb. Even if you're not staying in Galway, it's worth visiting the hotel for the food. Also, we used the swimming pool while we were there, which is brilliant. Loads of space for the kids to splash about, as well as plenty of room for the swimming lanes. - Gordon.

My wife and I arrived on Friday evening at 1800hrs and were immediately made to feel welcome. Reception staff were courteous and efficient and the room was clean and tidy. I used the leisure centre facilites, which were excellent, if a little far away from the reception. I availed of the breakfast on Saturday morning and I was shown to a table promptly on my arrival in the dining room and while there was a small delay as I waited for scrambled egg to be prepared, it was worth the wait and the breakfast was substantial. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel as an excellent place to stay and the cost through the Lidl break promotion was excellent value! Joe Ryan

Stayed at this hotel for 49 euro pp which included b&b and evening dinner so wasn't expecting a lot. Well I was wrong . The rooms are ok and the pool is lovely especially in evening with underwater lighting . The bar was great with plenty of sport on large screens . As for the dinner in Reuben's restaurant ... Well it was way beyond what I expected . Staff were fantastic and presentation was great only problem there was too much !!! Slept well on comfy bed and pillows were nice . Breakfast was buffet which is what I like and was fresh hot and again plenty of very courteous staff. Overall a great nights stay . Have stayed in this hotel plenty of times and again on this Lidl break. Great big swimming pool if you have kids that swim as there is a large shallow part, as well as a proper lane swimming area. Breakfast can be busy at peak times but just get down early. Rooms have a double and a single and they will put in a camp bed or a cot. There is casual food in the bar till 10pm. All staff very helpful and nothing is a problem. Also a Kids Club onsite. The G cinema is just a few minutes walk up the road and its a handy enough drive or taxi into the city centre.

We were there on a Saturday, check in was suppose to be at 3.30pm,we did'nt get into our room till 4pm. There key card system was down so everytime we wanted to get into our room we had to queue with everyone else, this is how most of our day was spent.I wanted to change our time for dinner and went reception, they could'nt get an answer from the dining room, she asked me to go out and do it. The worst about the night was, breakfast was been served till 11am, and at 10.15am we had someone banging on our bedroom door and when they got no answer they opened the door and shouted in good morning, we did NOT ask for an alarm call. I also left my coat in the lobby the night before and when i looked for it ,it was gone, when i asked at reception if someone had handed it in the response i got was, "why did'nt you pick it up". Food was lovely.

I have stayed many times at the Carlton Hotel Galway and can not rate it highly enough. It is the best value for money to be had anywhere as the food is excellent and you get to choose off the proper menu - (no economy versions). Staff I have always found from Reception throughout to be courteous, friendly and helpful no matter how busy they are and they almost always are. I am not surprised. A bit out of the city but with free parking included in prices if one has to get a taxi it is not a problem.

We stayed at the Carlton Hotel Galway City on Saturday 10th September and it was one of the busiest night they had in a long time but the service was superb from the minute we arrived to check in at reception. Each and every member of staff was helpful and courteous. The food in the bar and the restaurant was fantastic and the breakfast was also great. On the Sunday morning when we were checking out we were informed that the computer system was down but we were still dealt with in an efficient and friendly manner. We will definitely be recommending the hotel to friends and we do hope to return there again. This hotel is in a great position as it is only 2kms outside of the city but there is plenty of car park spaces available and this is complimentary to all paying guests at the hotel. The leisure complex looked superb but unfortunately we didn't get to avail of it as we weren't there for long enough but we did go and have a look and it was one of the best hotel swimming pools I have ever seen (and I have seen a few as I worked in the industry for many years) So well done to all the staff at the Carlton Hotel Galway City.

Breakfast was until 11 and check out not till 12, so we didnt feel rushed or under pressure at all. I would definately stay there again. Thanks to Lidl Breaks who made our booking so simple.

Stayed in july with my 2 kids and mother, could not fault the service, or standards of service, food was excilent, even the kids food was very good, freshly prepared melon and orange cocktail for kids starter, which the chef had actually segemented the oranges him/herself and not used the tinned version. Freshly prepared banana split for kids dessert, and the usually kids mins, but also roast of the day, staff were very friendly in all aspests of the hotel, leisure centre very clean, pool nice, supervised by staff in leisure anytime we were there. The adult food was excellent, very well cooked and presented, with effort made on every course.Breakfast good , but busy for breakfast, but they were able to manage it well, i also noticed the presence of management throughtout our stay, which was good to see, my only fault was the room was a wee bit small, and did not match up to other family rooms i have stayed in. i would have no hesitation going back, or recommending to others. On our arrival we found a lot of people checking in at the reception area and things appeared a bit chaotic. We were checked by a pleasant gentleman but on arriving at our room we found it very stuffy and there was no air-conditioning. The room was on on the third floor hence the window could only be opened slightly. As the weather was very warm and my husband has breathing problems we requested a change of room. After another wait at reception we were allocated a very nice suite which was airy and the decor was much nicer than the previous room. The food was good and we had a very nice waiter on both evenings. Breakfast was very good, but again the queuing system was chaotic with the same queue for hot food and fruit which led to long delays. All in all a pleasant stay but our abiding memory will be of queues.

All the hotel staff we encountered were extremely helpful. We ate in the restaurant my daughter son and myself. The food was excellent we all were very pleased with the dishes we had chosen. However we were in a rush because we had to get my son back to Irish college, the restaurant staff went out of their way to accommodate us and could not have been more helpful. Our room was bright and lovely and quite, as I had requested I couldn't fault it. We used the pool facilities which were really great in fact the only fault I had was the jacuzzi had an odour, and I regretted using it. Overall the Carlton was excellent value for money particularly through Lidl breaks but the friendly helpful staff really made the break for us.

I would highly recommend this hotel, staff and service was first class and the location is great also...stayed on a saturday night, great atmosphere. had our meal in the bar and we had a great choice and very good service....had to call reception from our room to get some milk and also couldn't open the window, someone was up to us within a few minutes and were sorted with both issues...leisure centre great. the one downside was the queue for breakfast as it was self service but then we went down at the busiest time, however staff were quick in dealing with the queue and very efficient..would stay here again no problem sheila, cork

Rooms were nicely decorated, bed very comfortable, had dinner in the restaurant, this was the only downfall, we were served by at least 6 people during the meal, it was all a bit manic, meal was ok, with only a teaspoon of potatoes with the dinner however breakfast the following morning, fantastic, made up for the dinner, we were down early but when we were on the way out there was a queue for the breakfast of about 20 people so go down early if you want to miss the crowds. Use leisure facilities all good, would definitely visit again.

We stayed in the hotel over the last weekend and I have to say it was a fantastic place to stay. The hotel, staff, facilites, food and atmosphere were all top class. We ate in the hotel on the Friday Night and Saturday for Lunch and the food was 4-5 star standard!! I would highly recommend this hotel and the lidl breaks was and excellent way to stay with, with an excellent price along with it. Look forward to visiting it again!!

This hotel is First Class, the staff are excellent - even though it is a really busy hotel - every attention to detail is given. Food is excellent and the value for money was the best I have ever had in Ireland. We had thought there was only 1 dinner but reception assured us it was 2. I don't know if thats a bit confusing from Lidl booking point of view but it was a great bonus and even better value than we had originally thought. Being a bit out of town is not a problem as there is an excellent taxi service. The hotel is so comfortable and a nice bar and good food - one wouldn't ask to leave it anyway. Thanks!

Great value for money! The hotel was beautiful, staff were friendly and helpful. The meal was delicious and the restaurant was lovely. The breakfast was enormous with a huge range of hot and cold food on offer. The rooms were top class, clean with a huge king size bed. I booked this for my husband's brithday and it exceeded our expectations in every way. I would give this five stars. Thank you !

Henry scored 3 / 5 on 23/03/2011

A great hotel friendly staff and in a good location not too near or far from the city centre. The food was great and selection was good, the hotel definitely has a good chef. The only complaint was that the rooms do not have temperature control and they kept them too hot but it was not worth complain to management about it but I would prefer sleeping in a cool room. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. Lidl breaks deals are worth every penny and will definitely be using it again.

Skippy scored 5 / 5 on 22/03/2011

The hotel was lovely, the staff were friendly and the food was nice:) had a wonderful two days in Galway, thanks to Lidl breaks... The only complaint I would make is that the bed in the family room was very small and we found it difficult to sleep in!

Olivia scored 5 / 5 on 22/03/2011

Great value for money. The meal which was included in the package was really excellent as was the breakfast. The hotel itself had nice reception and bar areas and the leisure complex looked amazing although I didn't have time to use it. Within walking distance of the city and also on a frequent bus route although it was raining so we did get taxis. One observation that I will make is that this is a very family orientated hotel and it was very busy on the weekend that we were there. There were a lot of children in the bar and resaurant areas. Brilliant if you want a family weekend away and not so brilliant if you were expecting something a bit quieter. All in all a nice, great value, well run, very friendly hotel

Stayed in The Galway Carlton last week for couple of Days. We are a Family of 5, 2 Daughters age 10 and 7 and a son aged 8. They had a fab time swimming and in the Kids Club. Both myself and Hubby really relaxed and enjoyed our stay. Bar Food excellent and the service is Top Class. This was our second time to stay and we will back again during the school Holidays. Great hotel, such a bargain deal with Lidl Breaks. Food was lovely, good selection to choose from. Staff were very friendly. Rooms were clean and spacious. Only downside if you can call it that is that the hotel is no actually in the City Centre, it''s about a 5-10 drive away. Taxi's are easily booked through the courtesy phone at reception and cost approx %u20AC10. Overall a great stay and would definitely reccommend.

Did'nt know it was going to be so full of families with kids. Went for a relaxing break after a stressful xmas but didn't get that. Noise in hotel & corridor until 3.15am. The rooms are quite basic, no shampoo/conditioner. Dinner was fabulous though & we have recommended it to my brother who has kids as the kids clubs & entertainment looked very well organised. Have had better Lidl break value. 3*

Bedrooms in Carlton Hotel Galway were extremely spacious, comfortable and cosy. The Parking at hotel is also excellent, with plenty spaces available. Hotel is ideally located and only 20 minute walk to city centre. We had dinner in the restaurant which was very tasty, no delays whatsoever in between courses. Plenty of food available for breakfast. The pool and leisure centre is a great bonus. The Lidl break deals are unbeatable and you don't have to build up points like with the "Supervalu" breaks. Just go to the website and book away. Noreen, Limerick.

From arrival on the 29th Oct for 3 nights/4 days untill departure we had a lovely break. The hotel was in a great location if you have a car. Reception staff couldn't be more obiliging. They had a fabulous pool to suite all ages. It was spotless clean. The Ruben restaurant staff where friendly and very helpful. Food was very tasty. The breakfast in the hotel was very fresh and they offered a wide variety of food. Parts of the hotel looked old but you couldn't fault it because of how clean the Hotel was kept. My only complaint is the size of what the hotel class a family room. We had 2 Adults/3 kids and had been given a room with one double bed and a single bed. They also supplied a pullout bed. Normally a family room consists of two double beds. When I explained my girls couldn't sleep they provided an additional pullout bed. I would highly recommend this hotel. Its well worth a visit.

I think the Lidl breaks are great value for money. You can stay in a good hotel at a very reasonable rate and the kids go free. The Carlton Hotel is in a good location in Galway with a good size gym and pool. My only complaint about this hotel is the staff were not as friendly or helpful as I would have liked also this seems to be a hotel that deals with quantity rather than quality. There was a huge amount of people staying and I think they are more interested in getting the numbers in the door than providing a good quality service.

Elaine scored 4 / 5 on 27/10/2010

We stayed at the Carlton in Galway last sunday night. Lovely hotel, friendly staff, fabulous swimming pool, delicious meal in the restaurant. however, it is in need of a little maintenance work, nothing major though. We also had to queue for 45 minutes for breakfast, I believe the hotel was fully booked and everyone went for breaky at 10.00, it was due to finish at 11. We had agreat stay and will defo go again.

We have had a great weekend in the Carlton in Galway. Staff were very friendly and helpful and very professsional . We dined in the restaurant on the Saturday night and the waiter told us that there would be a delay due to the large number of people dining .We were in no hurray so we ordered a bottle of wine to keep us company. The food was worth waiting for and to cap it all we were told that because of the delay in the service the wine was on the house.......that's what you call customer service ... Great leisure centre too...... Thanks Carlton & Lidl..We will be back..

Lidl Breaks is fantastic, we had our holiday in the Carlton Hotel Galway City. Great value for money. The food was fabulous, the location was perfect and rooms were lovely. However the only downside was the rudeness and complete laziness of the head bar man a fairly elderely man with a terrible attitude towards guests especially guests who had paid a large amount of money in the hotel through the bar and restaurant and lunch each day. He cleared away our drinks when we were not finished, we asked him 3 times for a menu and I saw him having a fight with another lady on the table beside us as she was not happy with him either. I would hope that one member of staff would not bring down the hotels standard as the other staff were brilliant and the hotel is great. Definitely will be back. Thank you.

Carlton Hotel Galway , is a fab place to go on a short break. The staff are very friendly and the Food is excellent , M/s Daly in the Restaurant makes you feel that you are the only and special people in her Restaurant. The price paided for three day B & B & Dinner is excellant value for money. Yes i would use the lidl breaks again and again. Only one issue is that i feel that the hotel should have read the e-mail forwarded from lidl regards requests made by customers,if requests were not available in the hotel then a simple statement at check in would be yes we received your requst but we are unable at this time to help you with them at this time. Were on arrival to the hotel we had a discussion with check in regarding our requests which was a bad start on the first day of our break.

We stayed at the Carlton Hotel mid-week for two nights, I would have to say that we won't be staying here again and I will not be recommending it to any of my friends. I could not fault the facilities, the bedroom was clean and comfortable and the leisure facility was good but as for management and care it was certainly lacking. Our experience at dinner was awful. We had to ask for our orders to be taken and then had to wait 40 minutes before the first course arrived, we had to ask for the cutlery, the tables on either side of us were never cleaned during this time, I eventually had to ask for this to be done, all in all a very unpleasant experience. I would have to say that this Hotel needs to get its management team in order if it is to compete in the current market.

Carlton Hotel Galway.great hotel for kids. Can't fault the staff, pool is A1 and allow kids, all day, a great bonus.I'd give 5 stars on it if the following was corrected.left a very bitter memory of the stay.very odd took my credit card and pin on check in, and again looked for the full amount on checkout.took ages to convince the lady that the money was gone off my card, she kept saying pre-authorized.I could only see when I checked online that the money was unavailable for me to spend, so they were not getting over 500euros from me. I'm on holidays, 250euros unavailable for me to spend is not acceptable to me.I've stayed in hotels all over the world, this is the first time it happened, the card is normally just swiped on checkin.be prepared for is if it's a Carlton Hotel.

When TV didn't work, they immediately replaced it with a new one. Block B seemed a bit tired, it is an old hotel, after all, only recently taken over by Carlton. The staff however, more than made up for any shortcomings in the actual building, they were all wonderful! Food was excellent! Really enjoyed the break.

excellent in all respects. The staff were particulary helpful and even allowed me early access to the restaurant for breakfast,so that I could keep an early morning appointment. Congratulations to Lidl for arranging such good value breaks in 3* and 4* hotels. The practice of including just two courses for dinner with an option of a third displays an innovative and practical way of keeping the base cost reasonable.

The Carlton Hotel,From the moment you arrive at the reception you know that you are in a 1st Class hotel, the staff are very friendly, the rooms are excellent and the menu's for both breakfast and dinner are fantastic and cooked exactly as you would expect them to be. The main bar is staffed with some great barpeople, fast friendly and full of local knowledge, the prices at the bar are better than most of the bars in the city, The location of the Carlton is ideal a short taxi ride to the city centre or pick up any bus across the road. The best thing I can say about the Carlton is we will be back.

We stayed at the Carlton Hotel in May and had a lovely relaxing break. The staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. We asked for change of room and were facilitated in a professional and efficient manner. The food was superb and whilst the restaurant was very busy with bus tours, large groups were accommodated in an allocated area thus freeing up tables for small groups/couples. The internal network to the leisure facility is endless and I would advise accessing same via outdoors. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Thanks to all.

We have been to the carlton a few times and we have never ever had a fault with and the kids can't wait to go back, they would prefer to go there than go abroad. The staff are friendly and very helpful with your evry little need. Definite 5 star stay

When I stayed at the Carlton Hotel in Galway with my 2 daughters we had a great stay. The staff were more than happy to change our room due to a medical problem I forgot about until we were on our way to our room whick was on the 4th floor and I don't go in lifts. The staff were very professional while still making us feel very comfortable because they were so polite and friendly. The restaurant was first class and the music in the lounge was very relaxing. We had a superb stay and have recommended it to friends and family. We woiuld definitely stay at the Hotel when visiting Galway. Many thanks to the hotel and staff. Well done and 3 cheers for the staff. Hip Hip Hurray....Anne Clancy,

Had a great time but hotel was mad busy for mid-term so pool and dining room were a bit hectic. Great hotel for families and the staff were really nice and very helpful. Bedrooms were lovely with nice comfortable beds! Food was excellent in the dining room and the value for money was just brilliant.

Good quality hotel with comfortable rooms and excellent leisure facilities. It is in a good location and is a pleasant walk into town for anybody that is reasonably mobile. Staff were very pleasant also.

Average hotel. Rooms very dated. Buffet breakfast was greasy and limited. Would not stay here again. However for the price paid it was good value.
