Very friendly staff, clean & comfortable hotel. Lovely breakfast good variety . Lovely massage . One negative thing sauna and spa not working shame for month of July (height of tourist season )also spa area crying out for a revamping.

Really impressed with our stay. Great service, beautiful food and the apartment was very high standard. Underfloor heating in bathroom nice touch. Alan

Got a Walled Garden Apartment for €59 a night. Stayed with my husband, my 1 and 3 year old. I can't complain for the price but 2 additions to the apartment would have been ideal and made our stay complete: 1. a microwave. 2. A TV with HDMI port or failing that, a DVD player (parents who go for these apartments and have put the babas down to sleep, will want more than just 3-4 tv channels for their entertainment).

Rooms were clean. Staff friendly but not enough of them on duty.Service was slow. Enjoyed our stay though

We like the hotel - this was our second stay. The one thing we did not like was the duvet on the bed - it felt like it weighed a ton! In fairness, this, unfortunately, seems to have become the norm in many hotels now.

I really liked Castle Dargan, I dont play golf but there are plenty of sites to see in Sligo, The food was very good and the rooms have their own mini kitchen. I would book this place again.

Nice hotel, looked like a lovely golf course. That is as far as complements go. Not very friendly on arrival. We went into the bar for something to eat and drink. We sat at a table and we were promptly told by a waitress that it was reserved, even though there was no sign on the table. That was the last we seen of the waitress. Ater 6 or 7 minutes I went up and asked for some service. When the food eventually arrived,it was pretty poor. Chicken Kiev was like something I had never seen before and the fish was barely warm and the chips could have been micro waved. All in all, we were very disappointed. Very unlikely to be calling again. PJ Holden

We had a lovely stay at Castle Dargan. Perfect for a relaxing break.Lovely clean and comfortable hotel. Excellant Breakfast and Bar food. Friendly staff. We weren't golfers, but wished we were to have a go on the wonderful golf course.

fantasic hotel, great for a q;uiet break.....only thing I would recommend them to extend the spa opening hours.....enjoyed my weekend...thanks to all the staff

Castle Dargan is excellent if you wish to have a quiet break, the room we stayed in overlooked the golf course and was clean. The food in the evening was excellent and the service good, the breakfast service was not up to standard of the rest of the hotel, as tables were not cleaned, though there were three waiting on tables, no butter on table, and the waitress needed reminding, toast was only Luke warm, and overall it lacked a senior person overseeing the brakfast, delegating work to the two junior staff who appeared to be busy but not actually doing any work. Overall would rate the hotel 8 out of 10 for cleanliness, quietness, and evening food and service, would dock it two for the breakfast presentation and service. Bannerman54

Very pleasant stay at Castle Dargan, beautiful surroundings, clean and modern rooms. Bar/grill lacked atmosphere on a minor note.

Gerry scored 5 / 5 on 18/07/2011

Castle Dargan does not deliver what it promises - with 3 exceptions, staff are cold and impersonal. Welcome pack is at odds with the chef. Breakfast as per brochure does not match with kitchen staff - no pancakes. Golf Pro very friendly and helpful - shame about the course - grass growing in bunkers, fairways not cut. Won't be rushing back or giving a positive report to friends.

Really enjoyed my stay at this hotel the only downside were the walls were paper thin, we could here the guy next door talking on the phone. Other than that the staff were friendly, the food was nice and the golf course and Spa were fabulous :)

The Hotel was very welcoming and the staff friendly. The Hotel is surrounded by lovely views. Our bedroom was a good size and very comfortable. The food was excellent. The Hotel bar was not very appealing. It seemed to be situated in a long room which gave the appearance of a corridor and had some seating at one end which made one think of a cafeteria. The decor was very bland. The management should re-think the layout of the public areas. One other diappointment was that the facilities (sauna etc.) were only available to Hotel guests on the payment of %u20AC20 each. I have never been asked to pay, for such facilities, in a 4* hotel before.

April, 2011. My husband and I stayed for 2 nights B.and B during this week.. We were very, very happy with our stay --everything was first class. The Staff, from the time we arrived, until our departure , were friendly, professional and most helpful.. Our room had a great view over the golf course, was large ,spotlessly clean and the bed was really comfortable. Food was good, especially the minute steaks we ordered in the bar on the second night. Compliments to the Chef!! The grounds are well kept and pleasant. The hotel is only a short drive to Strandhill and a little further to Mullaghmore, both beautiful seaside villages, amidst fantastic scenery. Altogether , it was a great hotel to stay in. We are not golfers, but all the players seemed to be enjoying the fantastic course. We were blessed with wonderful sunny weather ,21 degrees, so we got the best of everything!!. Great value for money and we intend making a return visit. P.G. Mary and Pat

We really enjoyed our stay at Castle Dargan. It is set in a peaceful location outside sligo town. There is loads to do like strandhill, Rosses point near by. We were very impressed with the food and service in the hotel. Members of staff always spoke to me by first name so they made a good effort. The Spa is exceptional with facilities being one of the best i ever seen and i have done a lot o travelling. The only thing which is a little off putting is the bar as it was too qiuet and could do with trying to put on some form of entertainment for guests. otherwise very impressed.

what a wonderful hotel, would highly recomend it and hope to return again

Adam scored 3 / 5 on 19/07/2010

Had a great, relaxing stay. The only negatives would be that we could hear doors slamming at night (which may have been the fault of the other guests) - and our own bathroom door would not close completely. One of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in (better than many 5 star hotels). Would definitely recommend.

Phillo scored 5 / 5 on 15/07/2010

We rreally enjoyed a lovely ambience in the hotel. Staff were pleasant and helpfull. Food was gorgeous and wine was good and reasonably priced. We had spa treatments and they were a real treat - had not felt so pampered in a long time. A real delight. We shall stay there again. Phil

We enjoyed our stay @ Castle Dargan, but we where disappointed that there was no swimming pool. The hotel and grounds were lovely. The hotel itself is clean, tidy and modern. The golf course, although I did not play, was busy and those who did play seemed to enjoy the young course. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. The hotel and its staff were lovely. The location was very scenic and really close to Sligo town. I found the Castle Dargan hotel to be very good. The food, accommodation and service all great. Couldn't fault it. The hotel was a great location to explore Sligo. We would love to stay here again.

I found the Castle Dargan hotel to be very good. The food, accommodation and service all great. Couldn't fault it. I have been on two lidl breaks, the other was in kerry, forget the name of the hotel, and that was very good also.

The hotel and its staff were lovely. There was no leisure centre so that was disappointing. The location was very scenic and really close to Sligo town.

room was comfortable, but the hotel lacked atmosphere,no centre to the hotel, the bar in particular lacked atmosphere, food was ok, nothing special, front desk staff were functional, but not very helpful bernard seery

We enjoyed our stay @ Castle Dargan, but i was disappointed that there was no swimming pool the cost of using the sauna was %u20AC10 for residence. Also on the second evening we were waiting 45 minutes for our meal. Appart form that the hotel and grounds were lovely. Monica Chambers

Paul scored 3 / 5 on 01/07/2010

The hotel itself is clean, tidy and modern. The golf course, although I didn;t play, was busy and those who did play seemed to enjoy the young course. My concerns about the hotel was the lack of restaurant staff, waiters/waitresses. We were left waiting for quite some time before our order was taken and then one of the main courses we ordered was not available. But when the food did arrive, it was beautiful and cooked to perfection. The hotel was busy and the staff tried to cope with the amount of people as best they could. The staff were very helpful and pleasant.

Myself and my boyfriend stayed in Castle Dargan for two nights, the location was fabulous and the accommodation was also lovely, no complaints with our room at all. However the food in the restaurant was particularly disappointing, firstly we ordered the pork however there was no more portions left which was fine as we weren't that fussy but we were served the steak and it was very very poor, the manager was very attentive and promptly organised a fresh meal but all in all we were very disappointed with the standard of food.

My Husband and I enjoyed one night's B/B and Dinner in Castle Dargan recently. We were celebrating our 12th Wedding Anniversary. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay-only problem was, it was too short! Accommodation was lovely, Dinner was beautiful and Staff were fantastic. Spa looked fabulous, but I didn't have time to try it out. I will next time - because I'll definitely be back! K O' B

Happy scored 4 / 5 on 01/07/2010

Accomodation was lovely with large bright airy rooms, staff were very friendly and helpful, was dissapointed to be ostrasized to the courtyard for dinner but food was excellent. The only complaint was having to contact reception a number of times during the night to get them to quiten the guests in the next room who were very loud into the early hours.

Donegal scored 5 / 5 on 30/06/2010

was disappointed with house keeping in the room in that bedside lockers were not checked for cleaning also the tea making facility press. I did let Reception know for housekeeping staff to be made aware of this.

Fabulous break for six people in walled garden suite and hotel room. Dinner was absolutely fantastic. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel. well done lidl-breaks.

Eithne scored 5 / 5 on 30/06/2010

Really enjoyed our stay-great valur for money. Our accommodation was superb and the golf was great and reasonably priced. However, what I did not like was the segregated dining areas-one for the regular cheap breaks and a different one for Lidl breaks. It was badly done and a bit embarrasing.

Ann scored 3 / 5 on 30/06/2010

Lovely accomodation, location and food, however, we booked 2 nights bed breakfast and dinner, however upon arrival, the staff tried to tell us there was only 1 dinner included in the deal, even though it clearly stated on the reservation 2 nights, bed breakfast and dinner. After talking to about 5 different staff, each passing the buck to another, we were eventually given the second dinner we paid for. Lovely hotel, maybe it was crossed wires between lidl and the hotel about the dinner but the attitude of the staff wasnt very nice.

Eithne scored 5 / 5 on 30/06/2010

Fantastic Hotel. Staff are ultra friendly and couldnt be more helpful. Brid the owner was a constant presence in the Hotel and very friendly to all the guests. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and it was tremendous value on the Lidl Hotel Break Offer - will be back to this hotel for sure.

We stayed in the old house, room was very spacious, with a big bathroom and seperate TV room. Staff were firendly and service was good in the hotel. The bar area could do with a face lift and some more comfortable furniture but overall we enjoyed our stay

Suzanne scored 3 / 5 on 30/06/2010

Very nice bedroom but would have liked air conditioning as it was very hot. The food was delicious and service very courteous. Would have expected a pool for a hotel of that standard. Overall very happy with our stay.

Sonia scored 4 / 5 on 30/06/2010

We stayed in Castle Dargan on a bank holiday weekend, and the food, the rooms, the staff are all really nice and it was excellent value, but I would have given if 5 stars if there had of been a bit of entertainment in the bar. As I said it was a bank holiday weekend, you're really isolated there and can't walk to a nearby pub, so you're stuck there if you want to have a drink. There were loads of young couples there and we were all saying the same thing.

Alison scored 5 / 5 on 30/06/2010

We really enjoyed our stay in Castle Dargan, the rooms were very nice, the bar and reception area were spacious and very clean. The set menu didn't have any vegetarian options on it but once I pointed this out to the waitress she was able to offer an alternative, the breakfast and dinner were delicious.

Fiona, scored 3 / 5 on 30/06/2010

Staff were welcoming and friendly. Rooms were excellent - very comfortable beds. Restaurant food was really very good for the price we paid but we were given a different menu because we booked through Lidl breaks. It was not quite as interesting as the main menu but still great for the price. The big let down was the cost of the spa - %u20AC20 each for an hour in a sauna/steam room/ hydro-pool- not a chance! We went to Strand hill and had Sea Weed Baths instead, a little cheaper and total luxury. There is nothing else to do in the hotel if you do not like golf so be prepared to get into your car and head for one of the local beauty spots - of which there are many to to Sligo town which offers other options.

Myself & my partner Lee stayed at this lovley hotel for four nights in the beginning of may 2010. After check in-we asended to our room, clean pretty and fair sized. we were dissapointed that a fault with the tv ment we had nothing at all to occupy us at all in the first evening after discovering the grounds etc, we also were not pleased that the hotel didnot offer anything to make up for it either, for as it turns out, we had only seriously fuzzy channels for the duration-tv is not usually an issue on our breaks away, but as this hotel does not have a leisure facility, you find yourself occuping time, and truthfully, i was annoyed that they wanted to charge us %u20AC20 to use only the sauna in the spa, (especially when the tv was out) that said, the golf course is totally amazing, & the view from the resturant over dinner is superb, the food is great, with more than enough to eat if you decide to go for a package like we did, but... id strongly advise a rethink if your concidering taking a family break here, i can imagine anyone under 21 finding it frustratingly boring, as there are no amenities to occupy them - bar golf. i had a very relaxing stay, and we would go to the forest parks beside the lough & walk each morning after breakfast, then the golf course at the hotel after dinner. this review is 75% positive from me - but like everything ealse, research a location thourghly before taking it on face value.

The scored 3 / 5 on 29/06/2010

Hotel luxurious in spectacular surroundings. Great for golfers. Pity no garden or walks for non-golfers. Food delicious. But when checking-in it should have been pointed out that even though guests booked in for bed/breakfast/dinner, it is necessary for them to reserve a table for dinner. Dining Room is on a mezzanine level with views out over the golf course. However it is a small area, and even though the same food is served, it isn't quite the same when guests have to eat dinner in the bar area. Staff are courteous and helpful, however there was no supervisor/manager when an influx of guests arrived hoping for dinner in a diningroom and they were ushered into the bar. Although there are information leaflets in reception, they mostly are for wedding packages and the health spa - we had to go in to Sligo town to get information on local sightseeing amenities.

We really enjoyed our stay. It was so relaxing and friendly and I have never slept in such a comfortable bed I would have stolen the mattress if it fitted into my boot! The staff were so helpful and nice. I really enjoyed my stay and would go back again. Thank you Castle Dargan.

Castle Dargan was wonderful. It is located in beautiful surroundings. By booking through Lidl breaks I paid one third of the price that one would pay fo a room for one night including a two course meal for two. it was excellent value. I would highly reccommend it.

My husband and I stayed here on 4th April last. The hotel is set in fantastic surroundings and has a clean welcoming stunning interior. The service from the staff is superb, very professional yet very approachable with an attitude that nothing is too much to make your stay perfect. The food was first class and served in very enjoyable and relaxed surroundings. I would have no hesitation in recommending Castle Dargan Hotel, be that for a wedding reception or a weekend away. Thank you for a most enjoyable stay!

Andrea scored 5 / 5 on 29/06/2010

lovely venue and great food. Stayed in a kind of flatlet adjacent to the hotel which was really nice but a tv in the bedroom would have been even better as the sofa wasn't great for snuggling up on. The only disturbance was fire alarm going off at 6.am - not sure what that was all about. Would go again ;-)

Nice place and location with good food in the location. Severe lack of character though
